Hornet is also interesting because she is sitting with ships of the MSC so you get to see lots of sealift and auxiliaries up close.

Re: CV-41 Midway Museum

If anyone knows why on my last picture is a active duty carrier stationed on North Island why is it wrapped up?. Never seen that before.

Re: CV-41 Midway Museum

Stopped by the USS Midway Museum last weekend.

Always fun, especially with my 3-year-old son. I'm not sure when they were added, but there are now several aircraft with open cockpits for visitors to clamber into (C-2, A-7, etc.), which my son loved. There are more aircraft on display than the last time I visited, a few years ago, but the museum and its website don't seem to include mention of when particular aircraft were put on display. Given that I write press releases and other copy for a living, I probably oughtta volunteer to help them with that...

In any case, there's now a very fine looking SBD on the hangar deck... Sadly, the cockpit for this particular aircraft is not accessible, but still. Love those rainbow prop tips!

Nrrrm! Whoosh! Rat-tat-tat!
