Virginia Aviation Museum, Richmond VA

I stopped by the Virginia Aviation Museum today. This gem is located at the Richmond International airport and is an easy stop-off if you are traveling along either I-64 or I-295. Admission is $6.00. http://www.vam.smv.org/

Its subjects cover a broad spectrum of aircraft from the Wright Brothers gliders and kites up to an SR-71. The reason I stopped by was they have an original SPAD VII. This museum turns out to be a treasure trove of 'Golden Age' aircraft: Pitcairn Mailwing PA-5, Fairchild FC-2W2, Curtiss Robin J-1D, WACO Model YOC, Curtiss-Wright Speedwing Model A-14D, Vultee V-1AD Special and several more.

Here are a few pictures.

Great pics Lee. I'll have to keep the Spad in mind if I'm ever in the area!

Re: Virginia Aviation Museum, Richmond VA

My buddy lives like minutes from there. I am going to have to plan a weekend trip down there.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Looks like a nice selection of aircraft. Did you notice the Link Trainer next to the Vultee V-1AD Special?

Re: Virginia Aviation Museum, Richmond VA

It may be a small museum, but it sure has a fantastic selection of aircraft. I stopped by there in the summer of 2005 and spent a couple of hours looking at their collection. I think their Curtiss Robin is one my son and I saw at the North Las Vegas airport back in 1997. Pilot at the time let my son sit up in the cockpit. My son was only four at the time, but he still remembers it.
