SA Armour Museum - Shermans and Centurions

Last edited by ZS-VAN : 09-15-2007 at 02:41 PM.
Since there seems to be much fervor around the Dragon Shermans and Minichamps Centurion, I've dug out some pics that I took of these while passing through the SA Armour Museum at the 1st SA Tank Regiment / School of Armour in Bloemfontein.

I love the Sherman. I know that there were better tanks out there, but there is just something cool about it. I have the FM Patton version. A great piece of diecast.

Re: SA Armour Museum - Shermans and Centurions

Great pics!

Mustangdriver, I agree with you. There's just something about it that's appealing. I believe that it was a very well designed machine. It was just out classed as a main battle tank. Many of its disadvantages were however balanced out by it's strategic advantages.

FYI: I don't know if I mentioned this before when I announced the "Exploding Attachments" feature. When you click on the first attached image you can use your arrow keys to easily toggle between pictures. This makes it a lot easier to view large batches like these.

Thumbs up Re: SA Armour Museum - Shermans and Centurions

Thanks guys. I wanted to dig these out because when I saw some pics of the new Minichamps Centurion, the back end didn't look quite right with last road wheel and the gap between the side skirt. Looking at these pics I'd say there may a problem. I am also looking for the Dragon Firefly so there was enough motivation. I only have one Sherman, the Phantom with 76mm gun. Might go for more upgunned tanks which is why I was looking for the Firefly. Sherman was just not mean enough to face some of the German heavies.

Re: SA Armour Museum - Shermans and Centurions

Thanks for the photos ZS-VAN, the Centurions look particularly menacing & large compared to the shermans.

Re: SA Armour Museum - Shermans and Centurions

Wow! Very cool! Would love to have one out in the front yard...but then the local dogs would use it as a fire hydrant anyway.
