| Comox Air Force Museum Here's some pics I took during a vacation a few years ago. It is the Comox Air Force Museum, located at CFB Comox on Vancouver Island, BC (beautiful place). Highlights include the original POW diary of John Colwell (which was the basis for The Great Escape), and the restoration of Spitfire Y2-K. Aircraft on exhibit include the Canadair Argus, CF-104 and a MiG-21. They also have a neat selection of 409 Squadron memorabilia. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Comox Air Force Museum That's a long way from home for you Rush. I've been to the island a couple of times but have never made it to Comox. Thanks for sharing. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Comox Air Force Museum Thanks for the compliments, smartd. If my best laid plans come to pass, I'm retiring somewhere in the Pacific Northwest. But, that's still a long ways down the road. ZS-Van, here's your MiG beside the CF-104. There's also a pic of the MiG-21 that's in the Museum of Flight outside Seattle, which I went to a few days before Comox. That's a neat place, too. They've got a complete M-21/D-21 combo sitting there as well. Interesting note about the MiG's in the PacNW- On I-5 south, going towards Tacoma, you can see a Chevy dealership off to the side. In the parking lot among all the cars is a Czech MiG-21. I think its an F model, its looks like its an earlier mark than the ones in the museums. Unfortunately, I do not have a pic of that one... | |||||||||||||

| Re: Comox Air Force Museum Wow, thanks for the pictures, Rush! Looks like a great musuem for me to visit in the near future. That SR-71 is pretty sharp lookin' as well as the other displays! ![]() | |||||||||||||

| Re: Comox Air Force Museum Thanks, flyXwire. The one in Seattle is part of the Boeing complex. You'll see all sorts of neat stuff at the airport (King County Airport, IIRC, not to be confused with Seattle-Tacoma Int'l); you'll see new airliners and older military jets getting refurb'd, you'll see a few ex-military planes (one guy has a Fouga Magister there), and, if you're lucky, you get to see some of the Boeing testbeds like the F-22 radar testbed 757 being worked on. All sorts of stuff flying in there, too. Comox is a few hours drive (and a long ferry ride) away; but I think its worth it. I'll definitely go back to both the next time I get a decent vacation. | |||||||||||||
