| I went to the big city of halifax the other day and stoped in to the musuem at shearwater and HMCS sackville and took theses pic's, I had a chance to talk to an avenger pilot and that was cool, he had some cool stories to tell!! I asked he he would mind if I took his pic in front of the plane and he said sure, so that kind of made my day Ps, they also have one of the few swordfish planes left in the world and this plane was restored and flown before it was placed inside the musuem for good. | |||||||||||||

| Re: CFB shearwater musuem and HMCS sackville pics Nice pics - thanks. Neat story - when I was working as a CFI, I had as a primary student a former FAA Tarpon pilot who had, among other things, attacked the Tirpitz. Once the war ended he had not flown again, but approaching 80 he decided to get his PPL. He showed up wanting his instructional flights put in his original logbook - the one with the Tirpitz entry. I managed to talk him into another logbook. Anyway, he had no trouble picking up basic aircraft handling and was solo again before no time, but he had a devil of a time with navigation. Guess he always relied on the GiB for that, but he finally got the PPL in the end. Definitely one of my most entertaining students. | |||||||||||||

"U-1225" to the northwest of Bergen on the 24th, the attacking Canadian Canso (or Catalina) was badly hit and crashed but not before sinking her. Flt Lt David Hornell RCAF, pilot of the Canso of No 162 Squadron, Coastal Command, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross.

| Re: CFB shearwater musuem and HMCS sackville pics Thanks for posting those perfect photographs, tank nut. All of the planes in that museum are gorgeous - especially the Swordfish. The models of the HMCS Bonaventure and the battle between U-1225 & Flt. Lt. Hornell are breathtaking. You're lucky to have had a chance to visit! The only museum of that quality that I can get to within a few hours is the War Museum in Ottawa. There's a small aviation museum here in Toronto with a Lancaster being restored & a 1:1 replica of an Avro Arrow, but I haven't had a chance to visit. | |||||||||||||

The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum flys their Canso in Hornell's colours. It would be nice if Corgi would/could research aircraft a bit more carefully and give us significant aircraft and markings. Maybe next issue of the PBY?
