| Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) I personally feel that if you want to see it all and are willing to go there and stay there all day from 9-5 and also want to see a few of the historic sights that are right around the field, that two or three days is needed. It is also growing by adding two new buildings as well. | |||||||||||||

In order to read most of the stuff and look at everything it's going to easily take all day like mustangdriver said but I would almost allow 2 days to be safe | ||||||||||||||

| Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) I stopped by the Air Force Museum last weekend, and this time I brought a camera and a tripod! The tripod is important since the lighting is a little dark in places and you need a slow shutter speed. This is my favorite museum. I took about 350 pictures. Here are ten from the "Early Years" display as I am a big World War I fan. | Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) That little Fokker hanging from the ceiling always gets me. Sucker seems like he's just about to open fire. It's a great shot but you have to see it in person to really believe it. It kind of surprises you at first. I remember turning around and looking up, laughing and saying holy ! What a sight. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) Definitely tough to see all in one day. I go to the Dayton show every year or two and I look forward to the museum as much as the show. One of the cool things is the plexi cases containing armament of Allied and Axis aircraft- you get a close-up look at all the guns and cannon. The 262, 109, and D9 are simply amazing to see. There is even a cut away 262 jet engine. Don't forget all the models. Or art. Or special displays. You get the picture. Oh, and don't forget the IMAX! Gift shops are fun too. If ya haven't been there it is a must see. Did I mention the new space gallery with the ICBMs? | |||||||||||||

| Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) This is a great museum. I've visited it three times in my life- in 1977, 2002, and 2005. I really liked how they had the XB-70 displayed in 2002 (it was displayed so that one could get a sense of the full majesty and awesome power of that bird). One thing that struck me as strange, though- they had the F-104 tucked under the XB-70's right wing. Was this done to show the airplanes involved the the XB-70 accident, or was this simply a display coincidence? In 2005, I was somewhat disappointed as to how they had the XB-70 displayed. It was jammed into the experimental hangar, with all the other planes crowded around it. I could not get a decent photo of the full plane. If they haven't already done so, I hope that in the future the XB-70 is diplayed in such a way as to allow the full plane to be photographed. That being said, it is indeed a great museum. I'd like to visit it and the Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola again. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Wright-Patterson National Air Force Museum (Dayton Ohio) In the new building, it will be displayed in a very cool way. There will be a way to both get great pics, and a look into the cockpit. | |||||||||||||
