Re: East Kirkby Lancaster

I never noticed the two sides were different.

Look at it this way parsig: change the side on display and it's like having two Lancasters in one!!

Re: East Kirkby Lancaster

I've been to East Kirkby myself but unfortunately not on a taxi run day. Just a phenomenal place and one of the high points of my trip.

Did you get a look at the Hampden restoration?

Hi there No4 ....... where ya been ?????

Don't tell me - on (yet) another Carribean Cruise ???????

(As usual) You have good taste, visiting East Kirkby, as generally speaking, it's not the easiest place in the World to locate - bearing in mind Lincolnshire is quite remote in places & they're not exactly falling over themselves in tourist attractions........ (apart from the usually windswept Sea-side/Holiday resort, at Skegness).......although the B,of,B Memorial Flight are based down the road at Coningsby (& open to the public for guided tours), as well as Coningsby being the main Fighter base for the new Eurofighter/Typhoon.

It may gall you to know that you were VERY close to a regularly-used N.A.T.O. Bombing-Range (RAF Holbeach & RAF Wainfleet).

The U.S.A.F 48th F.W's F.15-E's use it almost daily (they & other RAF a/c fly low over our house on the approach to Holbeach - as we live under the flightpath & dead opposite the range)...... If I don't see 10 + F.15 Eagles on a clear day, I'm having a bad one !!!
They often dogfight overhead, & my wife & I watch them in the garden, the kids are immune to it !!!!

We've had numerous B.1's, A.10's, F.16's & the like come over our garden & sometimes I've driven down to the Range to see them launch flares or dummy weapons on target.

2005 was the best, as a B.2 Spirit came over in April (Whilst I was laying on the couch, at 6.45pm SHOCK/SUPRISE!!!), & two more B.2's in August.
We also watched a N.A.T.O. competiton (bombing & strafing) Excercise 'Excalibur' - the RAF came last, typical , but it was worth going, just to see the A.10's let rip, with their 30mm !!!!!

The East Kirkby taxi-runs also take place, AT NIGHT, from Easter till September (as well as during the day), the dates being advertised in the local news-paper.

The Hampden restoration is impressive, quite substantial, BUT (sadly) slow, for reasons I'd outlined when the subject came up, within another thread (Corgi Lysander;France 1940 - post # 41).

B.T.W. No4 - Many thanks for pointing out NX.611's Sqdn No's, & reasoning behind the dual side/fuselage codes.

Great pix. I never knew this existed, thanks for posting.
can you imagine if the CWH Lanc gets over in '08 for THE movie, it would be incredible for it and BOBMF to team up with this one. The Brits would go nuts,.... 12 Merlins roaring together. WOW.
