Re: USAFM restoration shop

Well, I am not going to be there for a few weeks because I have some training to do out of town. I will let you know when I am going back down. The pics are from the website, but I have some of my own to post. The Memphis Belle in the photo is the real deal. She is going to be restored to how she rolled off of the assembly line, and placed on display in the museum's WWII hangar next to the museum''s already restored B-17G "Shoo Shoo Baby". Both of theses B-17's saw combat with the 8th AF. THe Belle obviously flew 25 missions, and the Shoo Shoo Baby flew 35 missions. The C-141 is the Hanoi Taxi, first aircraft to free P.O.W.'s from Vietnam.

Re: USAFM restoration shop

I do have so pics of the Mig that is being added. It was found burried in the desert. Iraq had put it there. Soldiers playing with Hummvees found it while not really looking for it.

On a somewhat related note, my brother has a few pieces of a Mig-29 he found when he was playing around in the Iraqi desert a couple of years ago. He said the parts were strewn all over the airfield. Pretty cool but he didn't find any complete ones .

Re: USAFM restoration shop

I went to the museum this past week for the first time and now I really want to go back. I only had 30 minutes, which was a complete shame, but the planes I saw in those 30 minutes were amazing. The Superfortress was really cool, and there was a guy there with his wife who flew them in WW2 getting his picture taken. That was really neat. Next time I go I want to do it for a whole day and take in the Friday tour "behind the scenes". What a phenomenal place for a plane junkie!

May the farts be with you, and not me.
