Re: USAFM restoration shop

What is the a/c behind the Memphis Belle? Looks kind of like Beau Fighter. .. but in the USAF musuem?

Good eye Flyboy! I had another look at the picture in question and you are entirely correct. Apparently the Beaufighter was used by the USAAF in limited but active duty. Here's a link to the museum's bird: http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/fac...sID=492&page=1

Re: USAFM restoration shop

That is correct. The USAAF did use a few of them. I have not heard how it is going to be finished yet, but when I find out, I will let you know. It is actually about done, so paint should be in the near future.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Presume it will be finished in the only U.S.A.A.F. Beaufighter scheme I know of ???.........(i.e. ex-R.A.F. Green & 'Medium Sea Gray', as depicted on the box artwork of the Hasegawa 1/72 U.S.A.A.F. model release that's currently available).

I've provided a (hopeful) link to a plastic model website, where one of the guys made the Hasegawa 1/72 kit - & finished it off (very nicely) in U.S.A.A.F. markings, SIX YEARS ago (Sept 2000), using an aftermarket decal sheet....... Aeromaster - sheet No 72-150.

http://modelingmadness.com/scotts/allies/beau6.htm

Since that time Hasegawa HAVE released the kit with the U.S. markings on the box-lid, & in the kit - though in my personal experience, the Japanese kit markings are nowhere near as good quality as an American after-market decal sheet, such as those made by Microscale or Eagle Strike etc.

Mustangdriver,

After reading this thread a few times, your signature finally registered.

Shouldn't it be "I love it when a PLANE comes together?"

Re: USAFM restoration shop

That would work as well. I was a huge A-team fan as a kid, and still am.

Re: USAFM restoration shop

I travel to Dayton regularly and I visit the USAF Museum every chance I get. There always seems to be something new or improved. A great place to visit!

I noticed, however, that there were no diecast aircraft in the giftshop. Missed revenue opportunity?

In the 19 years I've been going there the extent of thier diecast has been ertl force one which I haven't seen one of those on thier shelves since about 1995 and they did have a corgi legends C-47 and P-47. But I really agree I think it's a HUGE missed opportunity I couldn't imagine how many people would buy those there plus it would be good exposure for our hobby.

I'm very surprised Corgi doesn't actively pursue those venues. My local Aviation museum usually has one or two of the newer Corgis in stock, but they don't ever last that long, even the horrible ones. If people know the revenues are going to the museum, they're that more likely to pick something up.
