I'm going to be in the Windsor Locks, CT area, home toi the NE Air Museum, in two weeks and I'm wondering if any of you viewers might have visited the museum. If so, what's your opinion? Would it hold the attention of a 17 year old boy? {Yeah, I know, that's a really tough question ]

I heard there is a ton to see there. My sister in law went there who has little to no interest in aircraft, and she thought it was "pretty cool".

I was last there about 10 years ago and they had just opened up a new building - a museum/hangar/gift shop sort of thing. They were still recovering from the tornado that had hit in 1979 and there were still some damaged aircraft lying around in 1995 (tornado really wrecked the place). It was a nice place to visit back then and I can only assume that they have gotten a lot better since.

In fact, looking at their website, http://www.neam.org/default.asp, it looks completely different (and much improved).

By the way, try to go on an "open cockpit Sunday". They actually let you sit in some of the planes. My best memory of the place was sitting in a P-47D, working the stick and rudder and pretending that I was flying over Germany in WWII - my girlfriend at the time thought it was a bit silly but I did not care!!!!!! Besides, we broke up shortly afterward - Coincidence????

Other cool thing is that the access road to the musuem runs along the perimeter fence of Bradley International and you can park along the road and watch the planes land - at least you could prior to 9-11.

I haven't been there in a few years, but it was a great place for anyone (even those without much "diecast fever") to see. My younger son was 17 when we were there and he thought it was great! They had a B-29 that was pretty well restored back then, probably better now. I've also heard a lot about the open cockpit days - they also bring in guest speakers (Gen Tibbets was one) from time to time. Well worth the time to visit!

I was there a couple of months back. It's well worth a visit. It's probably in the top two or three aviation museums in the Northeast. Nice B-29 display there now.

First visited this museum in 1977.
Was mainly an outdoors aircraft park with a small inside display and restoration area.
Have been back in 1994 and 2001. It is mainly indoors now and is one of the premier museums around.
They still have quite a large outdoor display area.
