Photos of Spitfire Mk. XVI, Zero and V1

I thought that some of you may be interested in some of these phots taken at the Auckland War Memorial Museum (aka Auckland Museum). Please note that the panoramic photos have been 'stitched' together and may have some distortion .

Re: Photos of Spitfire, Zero and V1

Thanks for the pics, Card. No distortion at all. I rather liked the fact that the Zero, and especially the V1, were apparently not restored to "factory fresh" condition, saw a few dings and dents.

Yeah, sometimes leaving something preserved is better. At the USAFM, we have a combat veteran F-86, that still has the gun stains on it. I love that.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Photos of Spitfire, Zero and V1

Hi Louie,

Yes, the Zero is an original. It was found on the island of Bougainville, recovered by members of the RNZAF, and bought back to New Zealand in 1945.

Super cool any idea as to the exact condition of the Zero is it all original?

Yeah I couldn't agree more to me it adds good effect to the plane...which is a polar opposite of the painted on guns they have on the RF-86

Thanks for sharing the pics. Do you know any history on that specific V-1?
