Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum

The Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum is located at the Willow Grove Naval Air Station north of Philadelphia.

I thought some of you might be interested in their fully restored Me 262B-1a, a rare 2-seater.

I think this is the only 262B (two seater) in the US. The NASM and Air Force museum each have the 262A (single seat). I've seen them both, but didn't have a camera with me.

No. The jet was restored for static display only. But this is the jet that the Me 262 Project used as the pattern aircraft for making their flying replicas.

Should the paint really be that glossy?

Re: Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum

Great photos, thanks for posting them. This is the same livery that Dragon used for their trainer, correct?

Re: Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum

That's oh...about 3.5 miles down the road from me. Lee G, are you from around there?

It used to be displayed outside, in a white type markings, almost simliar to the dragon night fighter version. The new markings are close to the other Dragon B model, but not quite the same. This is the only surviving Me-262B, as per the museum. It's a B-1a model that was delievered to it's unit, the 3rd Fighter Replacement Training Group (III/EJG2) at Lechfield, Germany and was captured in April 1945 when the US overran the Luftwaffe airfield.

Did everyone take notice to the 'tractor' tires?????

Re: Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum

Here's a few pics of their A-4 Skyhawk. Very cool markings. I would love to see hobbymaster do this one.

I grew up about 3 miles from there. I remember when the museum location was just a line of rusting airplanes. Four of the most interesting ones are now somewhere else. The P-40E and N1K2 "George" are at the Smithsonian. I heard the N1K1 Kyofu float plane fighter went to the Nimitz museum. The Arado Ar 190 float plane off of Prinz Eugen is in storage at the the Navy museum in Pensacola.
I wonder what I did with all the pictures I took of those planes as a kid?
