Most Expensive or Valuable Model

What is the most expensive and / or the most valuable Model Power aircraft? Is there such a thing?

Re: Most Expensive or Valuable Model

If we are talking about MP's Postage Stamp series, I'm afraid that the generally poor quality of so many of these models, including lack of detail, errors of commission and omission, variability on scales, etc. makes this a difficult one to peg. It may be that over time, some of the better MP models may become "collector's pieces" with extremely rare ones going for premium prices, but I don 't see this happening soon. By the way, I have quite a few of MP's models, however, most were bought at a time when I believed that nobody would make the planes in question.

Re: Most Expensive or Valuable Model

This is of course a very debatable issue, but I have all of the Model Power planes (Postage Stamp and Airliner series) except one. I have been trying to find the original 5375 A10 Warthog for more than a year and can't find one mint in box for any price! So I would contend that that plane is the most valuable one in the series. I also acquired a Fiat CR-42 with German Luftwaffe markings (including the swastika on the tail) and have NEVER seen this plane even advertised. So I think that this one is even more rare (and hence more valuable) than the Warthog.

Then there's the controversy about the original models with swastikas on the tail. Since that symbol is outlawed in Germany, Model Power stopped putting them on their aircraft (although the Focke-Wulf Condor airliner has one - I guess civilian aircraft don't count?). So, the Stuka, Me262, Me109 originals with swastikas command a hefty premium (more than $100 each).

From there it's a toss up between the He111, the first P51 Mustang, Spitfire, etc. In general the first version of the planes is always more valued than the later paint variants (except for the F111 Stealth Fighter where the American Flag covering the entire bottom of the aircraft is almost impossible to find as well).

If there's more interest in this topic, I could sit and think a bit more and come up with my opinion of the value of each aircraft. But the above addresses the major issues of the most valuable planes.

Re: Most Expensive or Valuable Model

My two cents....

I also have the MP Postage Stamp and Airliner Collections.

Besides the big four. (Original P-51, and ME-109, JU-87, ME-262 with swazi's,) it can be a toss-up. Many of the Del Prado line of aircraft are different in paint before MP took over.
The F-117 with the Stars and Stripes is a good one.
I have a yellow Sopwith Camel that was painted for the Hobby-Town toy stores. (Logo on the top wing.)
The blue Fokker, (Udet,) is a hard one to find.
I'm sure some collectors put more emphasis on one make/style than another.

The original MP line does have a few hard ones to come by. Every now and then you will see them up for bid. Most of the time as part of a "lot." Sometimes as individuals.
Seems most folks will sell them in a batch because they can get rid of some of the less desirable ones along with it.

Happy to discuss this subject anytime.

Re: Most Expensive or Valuable Model Power Model

Hawk now possess that scarce Me-109. The Red-Noser P-51 is also in his new-style display cases. I have the Me 262 with swazi waiting for him.

Thanks for the MP comments. I started with Model Power/Del Prado when I first began to collect. The Del Prados came from eBay UK. The two latest Mustangs are pretty neat to add to my collection.
