Fokker DVII

I just bought the DVII, which is very nice and with 1:70 close enought to 1/72 so that you won't see a difference. But I think the colours of the Lozenge are a bit bright, I think they should be darker especially for late-WWI planes. Any opinions?

Re: Fokker DVII

When I picked that one up - I was so excited and thrilled to have a Fokker DVII in 1/70 that I was/am blinded to any slight imperfections/inaccuracies.

I do really like the Lozenge pattern and thought that for any diecast manufacturer to even do this was a super effort. accurate or not, I like the colors/paint on this model.

Is there or would there be any good source to even check this? Osprey are going to be artist interpretations. Any "colorized" photos may not be exactly accurate as well. I'm not even sure if the correct answer to your question is possible. (Even though it is a good question.)

Re: Fokker DVII

If your talking about the H-series-Brown Box.
I think it's just a tad brighter.
After all it's really hard to know what the exact colors looked like back in 1918 due to the type of flim they used.
They have a idea what it "might " look like.
This is also the same problem they have with the Red Baron's Fokker Dr.1 What shade of red was it and so fourth.
A little weathering will do the job if you dont like the bright colors.

Re: Fokker DVII

I compared it to a Siemens Eduard model (courtesy of Planenuts) & it's definitely bright & different shades of color. But as stated above, well-done nonetheless.

Re: Fokker DVII

This plane is my favorite MP plane bar none. The Albatross is second followed by Udet's DR.1. A gorgeous plane the DVII> I took the time to paint the prop wood brown detailed the exhaust outlets and oh my ain't it just peachy. If you look at my avatar you will see a painting I made of MP's DVII. I was that inspired when I bought it. I would like this same plane in red now. I have every MP bi-plane. I will wait to get a P-26 when Martin has some o.d. ones available.

Lightbulb Re: Fokker DVII

Well Rubberduck the Lozenge "color" question is actually quite in doubt. I do agree that the MP DVII does seem a bit bright but I have seen some "documentation" showing similar colors.
The problem is that there really is not much solid documentation but a lot of speculation based on the original samples, which still exist. The problem w/ the samples (it is argued) is "age/fade".
There are MANY good books etc. which give you a variety of educated opinions, but for every one of these you have many others who offer compelling arguments for and against! What’s a WWI modeler to do?
I have done several 48th scale WWI models w/ Lozenge and find my favorite patterns are the ones most in doubt.
Micro scale did a lozenge decal sheet set w/ was VERY similar to the dark pattern used on the German planes in "The Blue Max" 1968. I bought all of these I could find because of this similarity and my building of a Pflz D-3 and Fokker D-7 as seen in the movie. I was/am very pleased w/ the end results and my Albatross C-3 got a first place in the IPMS nationals a few years back.
BUT as pleased as I was with the models that lozenge patterns color caused a flurry of dissent from various "experts"!
Oh well, end result is that you can get away with a fair amount of latitude in this area due to this confusion.
In my humble opinion I go with the Smithsonian documentation and the D-7 they have on display since we do not have one of Der Kaiser's experts to consult! My favorite pattern in the very dark blue, black and purple scheme used on the Gotha bombers. I used this on another Pflz D-3, which is completely w/o historic support. It gets ripped every time I show it @ model meets but hey “bugger off”! I like it!

Re: Fokker DVII

I see, this discussion is as futile as finding the one and only colour for German tanks or the perfect olive drab. So decided I like the pattern and stop thinking about it

Sounds like a wise decision, indeed.

Bingo! Or well... Das Bingo? Very good comparison, the German armor color arguments make my head hurt!
