Model Power Postage Stamp Series

Does anyone have any of these die cast planes. I am thinking of purchasing some off of ebay, but not familiar with the "postage stamp" series.

Any enlightment on these would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

I have all the WWI planes they are really nice. They make nice medium and heavy bombers. For the money they are really good

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

I have several of the WWII and Korean War-era models and, as Louie says, they're generally good for the price. The I-16 is my favorite, and the IL-2 Sturmovik has a nice feel to it (I have the camo version, rather than the newer Siberian white release). They're not all winners, though: the CR.42 Falco, for example, seems to be pretty generally disliked. The F9F Panther is more like a toy than a model -- but then, I don't see other companies lining up to produce the Panther. On the other hand, their medium and heavy bombers are pretty well detailed for such small-scale models -- I'm happy with my PBY-5A Catalina The downside to the series is the lack of a standard scale: the Catalina, for example, is at 1:156 scale, while the Ju-88 is at 1:98 and the I-16 is at 1:75. The P-26 Peashooter even breaks the 1:72 barrier at 1:63.

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

I find they lack detail and their stands are not very stable specialy on the bigger planes.
There are however a few I liked: the black Albatros and the Polikarpov I16

I love Polikarpov

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

I have quite a few of Model Power's planes and it is true that their quality as well as size varies greatly from plane to plane. Generally speaking, they lack detail and often there are bigger gaffs such as oversized canopies (the P-51D, for example ), overly thick wings ( the RAF Typhoon ), missing tail or wheel struts ( Fiat CR-42 ) , hopeless tail wheels ( the RAF Spitfire ), terrible paint schemes ( again, the Fiat CR-42 ), etc. That said, however, if you are careful and look closely at the pictures displayed on the Flying Mule's site, you will see some that are definitely worth buying at such low prices. For example, I would suggest the P-26, P40 B, B-25, B-26, PBY, I-16, the Japanese seaplane fighter ("Kyofu", or "Rex" to the Allies ), and in the modern era, the F-80, F-9F, A-1 and Mirage 2000 aren't so bad.

Can’t speak for their other sizes or genres, sky, but I own Model Power’s stable of WWI winged wonders. And all I can say is, they’re terrific. For accuracy, style and presence, they really deliver.

Thanks,

Probably just like the regular "postage stamps", the price is going up again next Monday the 14th,

I do like that new version with the Do-217 with the piggy-back plane. Cool! Wish it was in a 1/72 scale though instead of that 1/100 scale.

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

Like Gort and Louie, I have their WW I aircraft, and like them a lot. Do be aware that their scales are to "fit the box" however.

Re: Model Power Postage Stamp Series

Those models really look all nice and 'spiffy' lined up in a display case at a local hobby store I visit. I own some like the SR-71, B-2, B-1, B-52, Dassault Rafale and Me 262, and I really like 'em alot!
