Diecast biplane query

Is someone able to tell me what the Planeta DeAgostini biplane website is thanks. Also, does Macemundi have it's own website or does it just use e-bay? Thanks

Re: Diecast biplane query

I would only give you a friendly advice : "KEEP CLEAR OF DE AGOSTINI RANGE !"

Some weeks ago, I ordered a Mitsubishi F1M from Macemundi, mainly to assess what this range is worth :

The WORST piece of CRAP you can imagine ! It went directly from the parcel to the BIN !

Believe me, even IXO's are luxury items in comparison ...

For those who are unwilling to make major alterations on their models----like adding parts, sanding down glue blobs and total repaints---I endorse this advice. However I have converted my Mitsubishi F1M into a passable, if not superb, addition to my collection.

The Planeta DeAgostini website is a publisher's promotional set-up which sells subscriptions to various magazines, with give-aways like the biplane series as an inducement to buy. They do not accept orders from the U.S., however surplus planes are available via eBay vendors like Macemundi and can now be purchased. Since they aren't consistently listed, you have to keep checking the appropriate eBay section. I usually search for the I-15 or HS-123. If these don't show up then Macemundi and the other sellers have gone dark on this series for the time being. As noted in my other post on this thread, these are mass produced low quality models which require upgrades by the buyer to be at least moderately presentable. So if you are thinking of buying one take a very long hard look at the pictures posted so you aren't disappointed. The primary value this series and others like it offer is diversity. You aren't going to get many of these planes from a quality conscious diecast maker for a very long time.

Smile New Diecast biplane query

Hi - I am wishing to acquire 6 WW1 diecast biplanes so that I may construct a mobile for my young son (to hang from the ceiling), preferably 3 British and 3 German. Would anyone have these in 1:72 (or similar) scale for sale? Would Model Power be the best bet? I can find Sopwith Camel, Nieuport, DR1, DVII and Albatros at Model Power. Are Boley brand considered ok for its SE5a or Spad? Thanks

Re: Diecast biplane query

Isn't that a bit too heavy for a mobile? It's okay as long as it hangs, but there's always a chance it will crash...

Re: Diecast biplane query

I concur with my Dutch friend. Sounds way too heavy. MP makes great WWI planes in small scale. If you are looking to drill, glue, or alter the models to "mobilize" them I would suggest using only Boley planes they are not nearly as nice as MP planes. They (meaning some company)make mobiles already with planes. I would also suggest using the small plastic ones found in party stores for birthday cakes. Good luck!

I bought several Boley biplanes a year or so ago and was disappointed by their toy-like nature. I have a collection of Model Power replicas which have issues quality-wise but are a lot better than Boley's planes. It's difficult to stick with 1:72 for WWI planes since the tendancy is to use a larger scale---mostly 1:48--to suit buyer demands.

Re: Diecast biplane query

Thanks for the advice re. weight of the planes. I'll do my calcs and ensure that the ceiling anchor is sufficient to support the weight. I have timber beams to screw in to so it should be ok.
Have a gr8 day
