Those Great Big Loveable Flying Boats

I was just looking at Model Power's Kawanishi Mavis flying boat, and wondered how many others were fans of flying boats in general, no matter the model maker. I would especially like a 1/72 copy of the Martin Mars (please, stop laughing), but would also gobble up a 1/144 version. Other favorites are the U.S. Pacific flying boats from Sikorsky, Martin, and Boeing. I've never bought one of Corgi's Sunderlands, though I've heard they were dogs (though I'm more than willing to be corrected on that point!). The problem with most flying boats, of course, is the limited number of production prototypes available for modelling. Anyone heard of the Boeing "Lone Ranger".

Re: Those Great Big Loveable Flying Boats

I like the pre-war flying boats and have me fingers crossed for Corgi to do that PBY Catalina in glorious pre-war color. But some other favorites:

Or how about this one:

Re: Those Great Big Loveable Flying Boats

I've always been a big fan of the Mars and the Marlin flying boats. The soviets had some cool flying boats as well like the Beriev BE 6 & Be-12 .

Re: Those Great Big Loveable Flying Boats

She wasn't very pretty, and her service wasn't very distinguished, but I'd like to have a diecast of Sikorsky JRS-1. Specifically the plane sitting at the Garber Facility of the Smithsonian. (At least that she was the last time I saw her about 20 year ago.)

She is one of the very few large planes to survive the attack on Pearl Habour and was sent up sub hunting after the attack. (Depending on which source, she either was rigged with depth charges, or they gave one of the observers a hunting rifle. )

Another float plane that the Smithsonian has is the AR-196 off the Prince Eugen. I'd love to have one of those as well.

Anything for a weird life.

I would love to see a JRS-1 as well. I know which aircraft you mean, and it is still in the Garber Facility.

A Mars???????? Now that would be a weighty diecast. The real thing had a 200 foot wingspan.

If you like em big how about the BV238, 6 engines to play with.

Or you could ask for a DO26, interesting aircraft ,two engines pulling and two pushing.

Emily Anyone?

Or how about this one:

Hmmmm....I dunno. Seeing the relic of a Sea Dart at the entrance of the San Diego Aerospace museum wasn't what I thought it would be. I'm not particularly impressed by this one I'm very
sorry to say.

Hey it works, I tried to post a moment ago and it wouldn't let me .
Tisk I forgot what I was going to say now!!! It must be bed time. oh yes I was going to say that although you were not impressed flyxwire I bet the pilot was. Try skidding a jet plane across water. It would impress the heck out of me.
