Vote for the next aircraft

Model Power's website has an online poll for visitors to vote on the next aircraft that they will produce. They have a list of 28 aircraft, and you can pick 3. The top votes as of 10/31/07 will be selected for production in 2008. I personally think their bomber and transport aircraft turn out better in the smaller scale, so I went with the B-36/B-47, and also the F-8 Crusader. Check it out if you're interested.

I voted in this poll but had to consider the scale issue in so doing. While I would like planes such as the B-47 and B-36, if Model Power does them they will be so small--so they fit into its standard sized boxes-- that one can't expect meaningful details. Bearing this in mind, I voted for the ME-163, Yak-3 and, just to include one of my primary "must get" planes, the F-105.

Re: Vote for the next aircraft

In case anyone cares---and I have a feeling that most of you don't-- the Model Power next plane poll, based on 15,500 votes so far, looks like this: first place goes to the F-105 with 19% of the votes, second is the TBF/TBM Avenger with 18% and third goes to the BF-110 with 15%.The next closest is the F8U Crusader ( 9% ), giving this plane only a slim chance of making the cut. What surprises me are the second and third choices--both planes being made far better-- and bigger--than MP will do them by Hobby Master and, in the case of the BF-110, by Corgi as well. The only explanation I can come up with is that many MP fans can't afford the prices that the leading manufacturers charge, so they opt for the same planes, with reduced size and less quality from this company. Still, I will probably but the F-105 and BF-110 when and if MP offers them.

Re: Vote for the next aircraft

Give all my MPs away, there are a few I should have kept. Will look at their issues. Wont buy. Wont vote.

That very well could be. I only have a few MPs, but I'd buy the F-105.
I do have a question about the MP planes, though. Because of the size, price, lack of detail compared to the bigger models and better availability, aren't these planes viewed by many people as being toys? Kind of like the modern equivalent of the Bachmann Mini-Planes?

The Model Power line can certainly be described as toy-like due to the small size and limited detail on many of its models. However, MP's quality has improved recently, especially for their eight inch span planes such as the B-25, B-26 and D)-217E. Hopefully, this will continue on their upcoming Swordfish and SBD, as well as the TBF and BF-110, if these win the poll and are put on MP's schedule. I'm not so sure that an MP F-105 will provide as much detail or add-on weaponry as I might like----but I still expect to purchase it unless one of the diecast biggies comes out with one first.

Re: Vote for the next aircraft

I have a few but find that sometimes their colours and markings are suspect.

Re: Vote for the next aircraft

I seriously doubt they'd get any variant of the F-8 besides the E done properly. (I want Century or HM to do it).

Re: Vote for the next aircraft

They kind of remind me of the old Aurora plastic kits....They make them all to fit in one standard-sized box so they're easy to stack in the stores ....no regard to scale whatsoever. Makes for an interesting display.
