Old plastic model kits

I went to a garage sale today and picked up an "Air Lines" 1:72 B 24 plastic model kit, plastic parts still in the bag. Comes with "collector cards of various aircraft on the back of the box. Copyright 1964.

Also got a "Frog" 1:72 Hurricate IIc night fighter, still in the original plastic wrap. Plus an "amt ERTL 1:25 '59 CORVETTE (definitely newer, has a bar code) still in plastic wrap, and an ERTL '63 Vette, still in plastic wrap, no bar code, which is die-cast metal, 50 parts.

I would suspect that at least the 1st two may be collectible, anyone know anything about them?

Thanks.

Re: Old plastic model kits

They sound neat, whatever they end up being worth. I know that there is definitely a market for them out there, but it's really hard to pin down prices. I have a couple of old unbuilt kits from the 60's...put 'em up on eBay a few times. No takers at all.

Hi Capt Ed,

That Frog 1;72 Hurricane IIc may be more unusual Stateside, but they were produced in great numbers on this side of the Atlantic.

Frog were THE first company in the world to make commercially available scale model aircraft kits (back in the late 'Thirties - can give you details in a later post when I have THE reference source to hand).

Frog went bust, back in 1976 - yet many of their kits are still available in their original packaging, often in great numbers (which often comes as a suprise to many).

The best place to see them (in original packaging) are at British I.P.M.S. fairs, where most are available for small fry money.
Only a couple of years back I gave £ 5 each for two Vultee Vengeances, in different era boxes - both were mint.
More recently, I turned down an Me 410 & a Beaufighter (£ 3 each, mint) & £ 2 for a (mint) Ju 87.

They don't sell THAT well now, as only collectors (like me) tend to buy them, as a nostalgia trip..........(built my 1st Frog Vengeance back in '73, as a kid).
The serious money gets spent on Hasegawa & Tamiya kits, whose moulds are computer generated - with exquisite detail to match.

Some of the old moulds were bought out by Revell; i.e. the Skua & Avro Shackleton.
