| Rust effect on WWII Submarine how? How do you guys paint a rusty effect especially on the conning tower. What do you use? I haven't bought the model kit yet. But i'm considering it. Any suggestion on WWII submarine plastic kit model? What's the best maker? The best model? Thx EDIT: I'm considering to buy type IXB from Academy. It has optional part for static model or motorised. But when i looked at the box picture the built model has got only one big propeller not the accurate two small propellers. I'm wondering whether there's optional part for those propeller. I searched the internet for academy's submarine model but couldn't find anything about the propeller. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Rust effect on WWII Submarine how? I use weathering powders and a dry brush.. I would only recommend using paint if you are wanting a heavily rusted area.. I also use an airbrush to feather rust in if painted on.. Here are some feature articles I have regarding U-boats/fast boats which may help.. http://hsfeatures.com/features04/u552cw_1.htm http://hsfeatures.com/features04/typeviicaj_1.htm http://hsfeatures.com/features04/u552dj_1.htm http://hsfeatures.com/s100cw_1.htm | |||||||||||||

| Re: Rust effect on WWII Submarine how?
The last two questions are certainly a matter of conjecture & opinion, BUT, F.W.I.W - The DEAREST & most expensive model I've EVER bought was an Italian kit of a mid-late Mk.VII U-boat, in 1/72nd scale. It has a Resin Hull & die-cast & photo-etched detailing kit (sorry, the name of the manufacturer escapes me - I'll post the man'f name later). It was £ 225 new, but the box was a bit squashed, & they were asking a clearance price ....... £ 160. Two visits, an hour later, & after MUCH bartering, I left the nautical shop in Bluewater, Kent (Europe's largest shopping mall) with this absolute MONSTER of a kit, for which I'd paid £ 100. Several years later - & Revell released their massive 1/72nd scale offering, which I've been informed by one of my ex-I.P.M.S. colleagues, was supposedly based on this Italian/Resin Hull/Metal Etched kit (but don't quote me on that - that's just HIS opinion). It sold well in Hannant's, the London & Lowestoft model Mecca of Europe & by all accounts I've read & heard, is good. It's THE kit featured in hworth18's attached feature articles !!!!! | ||||||||||||||
