Re: A few issues

I'm not altogether certain you're ready for Skunky's Bondo or Sado methods, Ty. You might reconsider....

Okay I'll take your word for it Bob

Re: A few issues

Okay I'm also trying to mask off the windscreen on the X-1 and of course with it being 1:72 it's a pain! I've tried using masking tape and an x-acto knife to try to cut out of the pattern plus scotch tape after that didn't work...anyone have a trick for painting this part?

Here's another method...from the pages of FineScale Modeler magazine.

Have you cleaned it first ?
What paint are you using ?
Sometimes if you have a little oil on it it won't stick very well.
But on the other hand you said the tape would not stick either
so that sounds like you have your skin oil on it.
Try washing it and then try again.

I was using Tamiya paints and I had recleaned it and has handling it with tweezers... I scratched it pretty bad after another attempt to mask it off so I'm going to reorder the part and get started on my Caribou which will hopefully be a little less of a pain. As far as the filling in body gaps is concerned I used testors contour putty with a toothpick and cleaned the excess off with a Q-tip and paint thinner.

Re: A few issues

All i can say is i have never had that problem..knocking on wood...
But some things do not go as planned when we build models and
that's how you learn to be a good builder.
There was a time years ago i had built a space shuttle and used Testors paints for everything and this model was perfect i sprayed a final DullCoat on it and no problem put it on the display stand and had it sitting on top of the tv
and the next morning i was shocked it was on th tv all slummped over melted like..Never seen that happened in my life.
There was no heat or nothing in or around that area tv was not even plugged in....after that day i will no longer use Testors paints.....except the Dullcoat for my diecast planes.
Good Luck

Re: A few issues

Wow after that I would be plain sick I've noticed between using testors and tamiya paints the difference in the amount of fumes so I guess I'm not too shocked that would be possible...
