creating a wood look

For you model makers out there-I just purchased an eduard "weekend edition" Albatros D III. The suggested paint scheme is for Jasta 5, 1916, with a largely varnished wood finish on the plywood fuselage. How does one with virtually no modeling skills recreate that on plastic?

Thanks,

Captain Eddie

Re: creating a wood look

I don't know if I can explain how I do it. It takes some practice.

Try to do it in sections, like if there are panel sections. I lay down a coat of light wood color and before it dries completely I put just a little of dark wood color on the tip of a brush and keep brushing in one direction so it kind of desolves the light color and starts to blend in. It's kind of like TRYING to make brush marks. Just work it until it looks like wood grain.

Tri-motor has my picture of my Siemans if he can post it.

Heavens!...Why on earth would you give him a picture of that!....You've definitely gone way off the deep end now, p-nuts. I'm sending a psychiatrist after you.

Tri, I beg you please, in the name of decency - do not post that photo!

I told you on MHI that I started to sell "you know what" to a fertility clinic so I could afford to get all the new stuff. Tri-motor was interested in buying some so.....

Disclaimer:
I have no idea why Tri-motor wants it. What he does with it is his business. I thought wanting a picture of it was a little.....different? But you have to know Tri-motor like I do.

Re: creating a wood look

Thanks for the suggestion, planenuts, I'll try to remember that when I get around to putting the model together (probably in the next year or so).

And, JP, great job on the Dr I!
