| In the late 60s and early 70s I worked in New York City and often had lunch with an old friend from grammar school days. He was in the paper products business and at one luncheon meeting he gave two very interesting WW I fighters, 1:72 I think. They were unique: plain white molded fuselage, wings, etc, and came with a paper covering that was cut and trimmed, very carefully, and glued to the model. As I recall, the paper covering, done in appropriate colors/camo, had a high rag content and was very malleable. I put the two models together, after much fussing and complaining, and I was very impressed with the canvas & stick effect created. Not too great in the details department, but pretty to look at. They had to be pre-pro models because I never saw them hit the market. My friend, who was in the paper business not the plastic model business, doesn’t even recall giving me the two models. C’st la Vie. Any of you old timers ever come across such a product? The paper was a bear to apply correctly, but the finished product really looked good. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Paper covered plastic WW I fighters The World War 1 aircraft you described were made by a company called Renwal. I remember them because in my earlier days I worked at Hobby shop in Washington DC. They made the lozenge pattern for the Fokker biplanes and numerous other aircraft. Since they are now rare kits, I would check with the IPMS to see if they can find a collector who may be willing to part with them. | |||||||||||||

| Re: Paper covered plastic WW I fighters I was over at my mother's house over the weekend (she never throws anything away..and when I say anything, I mean ANYTHING), went down in the basement, and, lo and behold, what did I find? The fuselage of a 1:72 Se5a with a properly colored paper decal, if you will, all over it! I KNEW I had seen something like that before. And I built it, back in the late 60's or early 70's. Also, I'm sure the wings are somewhere in that pile of stuff! PS I'm willing to sell it, once I find all the parts. Highest bidder wins! Who wants my crap! | |||||||||||||
