Re: 1/32 Tiger and Jagdpanther

Think I should add $0.02...

It's a myth that on late-war tanks panzer grey was used again. Late war vehicles used either a dark green or dark red primer which looks like panzer grey in b/w photographs. If panzer grey was used then probably only on non-combat vehicles like trucks and motorcycles.
There were some tanks with panzer grey guns but the rest of the vehicles had a dark yellow base colour. There are original colour pics proving it. If this was done to conceal the gun or just the gun manufacturer using up their stocks of grey paint I can't tell.

The Fehrman combat group's Tigers appear to be early production vehicles minus the air filters (some of them retaines the mounts, but the filters were removed) and upgraded with late production all-steel wheels and Zimmerit. These were probably training vehicles but there's little reliable information about these Tigers.

The topic of Fehrman combat group Tiger Is was discussed extensively on a Russian forum that I frequent. There are quite a few photos posted there:

Uh...Russian...not really my best foreign language...
Could you briefly tell us about the main points discussed there, or recommend an online translator that doesn't turn it into complete rubbish?

It is mostly "request for pics" type of topic, and there plenty of photos there, but that's it. A lot of people asked about the history of Fehrman combat group, but nobody could come up with a decent answer with an exception that it fought in central Germany in the vaning days of the war.

Also mistakes in color illustrations from recently-published books, especially related to omission and/or improper positioning of Zimmerit paste were discussed in great detail and proven with black and white photos from that period.

Regards,

Sergey

Berkut:

Thanks for the info.

That is disappointing to me since I have that model and really like the color scheme. Guess it's going to be seeing a tour of duty on ebay in the near future.

But it's not all bad since I also have the camo 'France' 1944 version. Any problems with that paint job?

Better with Zimmerit.
There are photographs of Tigers in clearly showing this camouflage pattern and Zimmerit though I don't remember seeing any pics of this particular one, turret no. 001

Re: 1/32 Tiger and Jagdpanther

Well, they say the devil is in the details...it's also here, here and here

Even if the paint scheme isn't accurate, I'm quite happy with both of them...and if it, all the better! And forgive the image quality, I recently got a new digital camera and am still learning the tricks.
