First MB and...

I wanted to pick this up in its own discussion so it didn't get lost within the other one.

What was your first Matchbox Collectible? And was that the model you lost your die-cast "virginity" with?

Gabreski P-47
Bought clearance for $8.38 at a Target somewhere in the San Francisco area while on vacation. July 2004?? 03??.

Yes, it was my "first" (diecast) and will always occupy a special place in my heart. (Where's the "love" icon?)

Re: First MB and...

1st diecast - Forces of Valor F-14. (At least I think it was?)

1st Matchbox - Aluetian's P-40

Not a very sexy pairing, but it worked.....

First MB was the F4U Corsair Pappy Boyington & silver P-38 lightning i got at Target for my younger son.
For me the 1:48 Armour P-38J lightning of Tommy McGuire got me started.

Re: First MB and...

My first MB and diecast were the McCampbell Hellcat, Olds Lightning, Marion Carl Corsair and Meyer Mustang from Toys-R-Us. Then I discovered the Mule and the hangar and it was all downhill from there.

Re: First MB and...

The first model of their Hellcat, the dark blue one. Then it was game on. But I've sold off my P-38s, one P-40 and Spitfire. I never got the WW1 birds though, they just weren't my thing.

Smile Re: First MB and...

My first was Kathy... Oh wait, Yeah as I posted on the other thread the Mig 15 (Chinese, green cammo) was my first. It was strange though; I had seen MANY Corgi's on the shelf of my local hobby shop. But with the boxes sealed, and the ongoing extremely poor "photo" of the model enclosed on the box lid I was unimpressed so avoided them.
Bought the Mig and that made me curious, if a Matchbox looks this good I wonder how the Corgi looks? Sure enough when I looked @ an actual Corgi it was much better than the box led me to believe.
Later in the weekend the binge began! I called around town looking for more as the big hobby shops only had a few. I found Perry Aircraft in the phone book and called thinking it to be a little hole in the wall hobby shop... I asked him which ones he had in stock and Bob replied... "Well, ALL of them"! I figured he was exaggerating... No, not so much! This REALLY opened "Pandora’s box". Bob later sold me a half dozen of the Matchbox birds for $10 each since they were not selling well compared to the other more popular lines and I am so glad I got them! I think they are great, simple but very nice! So sad to see them go...
