First diecast & Matchbox - P-40E Matchbox Premium Collection. Still got it safely hidden away.

First non-Matchbox diecast - Corgi's "Hun Hunter" P-51D

Re: First MB and...

First MB: P-38 Mamas Boy

First Diecast: Armour P-38 Put Put Maru

I started in with Armour 1/48 AC because at the time Corgi's seemed so expensive for a 1/72 scale AC. When Franklin Mint bought Armour, prices went through the roof overnight and I actually stopped collecting for a while until I stumbled onto those MB gems at Target . Now I am firmly hooked on 1/72 planes (and a few 1/32-1/35 ) and have no need (or room) for the dozen or so 1/48 Armor planes that started my collection.

Re: First MB and...

First Matchbox Silver P-38 bought at Toys r Us shopping for a birthday present for my niece. After that there was a few more Matchbox purchases then found an FM Mosquito 1/48 and purchased it Was not impressed, went back to Matchbox then discovered Corgi on the web then the Mule, then MH1 then Dragon, ixo, Hobby Master......... and also discovered a dwindling bank account and a rising credit card bill. Do not have the full Matchbox collection but darn close, only really interested in the WWII aircraft.

Re: First MB and...

The one that started all for me, was Dominic Gentile's P-51 "Shangri la" , and it's history from there....

Re: First MB and...

1st diecast and 1st MB was P-51D "Old Crow". GOt it for my b-day shortly after going on medical retirement, and as Target was a short walk from my house, started walking there and picking up additional MB's as they became available. My only regret is that I wasn;t inroduced to these until Spring '04 - just think of how many I've missed out on!

Re: First MB and...

Yeah it was Mama's Boy for me too. I was working at Sears at the time, I saw them in the toy section one day and remarked to my boss how cool they looked. A couple weeks later he got me the Lightning for my birthday. I suppose I have him to blame for all this...

Re: First MB and...

First MB - Pappy Boyington's Corsair and followed by "P-38 "Mama's Boy"

First diecast, IIRC was Armour 1/48 F-16 "Thunderbirds", followed by F-18 "Blue Angels"

Re: First MB and...

My answer will surprise you. It sure surprised me! My first "Matchbox Collectible" aircraft that I bought was a Coca-Cola Airship in 2000.

The second was #97479, the Hellcat, also in 2000, one of five that I pictured in my post in this section.

This is one of my first. This was December, 1966. This is Japanese Tin, not a die cast plane, but the photo shows also two Hubley aircraft: a folding-wing Navy fighter and a P-40.

Hubley P-40. A local toy collector/seller repainted it for me in 1990, because ten years earlier I had painted it blue!

I wanted to pick this up in its own discussion so it didn't get lost within the other one.

What was your first Matchbox Collectible? And was that the model you lost your die-cast "virginity" with?

Gabreski P-47
Bought clearance for $8.38 at a Target somewhere in the San Francisco area while on vacation. July 2004?? 03??.

Yes, it was my "first" (diecast) and will always occupy a special place in my heart. (Where's the "love" icon?)
