Re: Will MB be kept through the flood?

Good on you Doser! Those MB Navy birds are sweet. Something they have that Corgi does not that I noticed the other day:

The numbers on the gear in the closed position. I thought that was a nice touch. It also has all 4 antennas, unlike the Corgi. You can just see the one in the underside touching the stand. Nice attention to detail!

I like the Carl Corsair and just picked up Pushing the Envelope on Ebay for $20 hardcover.

Leigh-Mallory and his big wings! Might as well stay on the ground for all the use they are!

This has been MATCHBOX's asset! Their Fw-190s are superior in every way to Corgi and Dragon
in the detail department as well.

Re: Will MB be kept through the flood?

I am keeping mine, even if I have to build an Ark. The MB Collectibles series started, IE inflamed my passion for collecting die cast aircraft. I am almost sorry that I began to collect this series, because I have not been able to find any models that combine all the MB virtues: price, finish, colour schemes, pilot figures, choice of historic aircraft to depict. The FW 190's are definite keepers., as are the P-38's. The Gabby P-47. The A6M5 Zero. Both Corsairs and the initial Hellcat. The Tuskegee P-51 complete with pilot Hartmann's Me109G It's a real shame that they aren't still in production. I wonder what Matchbox would have done with a few other aircraft: the Razorback P-47, Dora9, Ki84, Judy, Nakajima B5 and 6, Aichi Val F4F..Mig 17...Dare I dream!

I have combed the web looking for comments on the MB series, and they all lament the passing of this series. Especially for first time collectors, these planes represented a real boon.

Most of mine have been displayed, but I have kept several, mint, in their boxes..primarily for speculative reasons, but I don't know how much longer I'll be able to resist the temptation to open them.

If anyone knows of any way to convince MB to restart the series, and add a few more classics to the line-up, please let me know!!!

Re: Will MB be kept through the flood?

I have eight of their models and think they all look pretty good. Just wish they still made them.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Re: Will MB be kept through the flood?

I have almost all the MBs as they are what I initially began collecting when I started collecting "high end" models. Those were the days- a fine model at a very reasonable price. Now my new additions cost two to three times as much as my old Mbs did.

Torture? I would love nothing better than to see them back. Their last announced line, not produced, included an X-1...think about it...
