Just thinking...

With all the Corgi 2007 / HM/Corgi "partnership" / tsunami of releases -

The only thing we need now to "cement" the Golden AGE of Aviation Diecast would be for Matchbox to announce the return of their Collectibles aircraft.

If Corgi/HM thinks that the market has the potential for this wave of releases, then maybe Matchbox will see this move and starting thinking, "Hmmm..."

Obviously they had the X-1 and Yeager P-51 ready to go. How quick could they get those back in Targets. (Toys R Us doesn't seem to be carrying anything in the 1:72 scale - that I've seen anyway.) A repaint of a P-38, SPAD, and an F-100?????

I had a couple of my Matchbox planes out tonight - great stuff. I still think - for the price - these were the highest quality stuff on the market. (Of course I prefer my diecast displayed "in flight" with a pilot anyway.)

Come on Matchbox. You can do it. For us, think of it as a way to bring in more collectors to help support the Corgi/HM production/releases.

Matchbox could beat Corgi to the 1:48 Fokker DVII punch.

Competition is good.

(Of course, I'm not sure my wallet could afford this move by Matchbox. )

Re: Just thinking...

Hey guys, by the way, my wwife went to an estate sale with her mom, and saw an airplane mdel. They only wanted $9.00 for it, so she bought for me. It turns out it is the Matchbox Rutan F-100 in mint shape. I think it is great. Was that a good buy. I don't know much about the matchbox planes.

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

My wife allows my diecast on "her" coffee table, she and my daughter bought me a tie with Spitfires on it and now your wife buys you diecast. I think the world as I know it is coming to an end.

Re: Just thinking...

That would be awesome. I don't see it happening as long as Matchbox is owned by Mattel, as Mattel regards MB very much as an unwanted stepchild. Still, one can hope

If you have questions about the Matchbox Aviation Collectibles, be sure to check out the Matchbox forum. Canucklehead has done a GREAT job of listing the history and all the individual releases.

I really don't know, but seeing as they retailed for $12.99, I believe, and the Matchbox Dr I's sell for $24 at the Mule, I would say yes, it was

Whenever you go to one of these sells i'm always looking for things like that.
Last week my father picked up a 1:32 scale i think it is Pappy Boyington Mahogany Corsair made for Danburry mint or something like that for 15.00.
It was still in the box never opened.Nice deal for him.He also picked up a Matchbox P-40 flying tigers for 5.00.

Re: Just thinking...

Got mine back in the day at Target for 12 clams. Nice looking bird and well worth it. Now bring on that A-4, an A-7, an F-105, and the Skyraider!
