Pics: Marushin Silver Tony #33

I've just always liked the Tony, I think because I used to fly it way back in the day in Pacific Air War on the PC (greatest flight sim ever made IMHO).

So I couldn't resist nabbing this from our favorite ebay Marushin source. It was pricey, about $100 bones delivered, which hurts. But I just like these models and this one is an older release that I was unsure if we'll see avialable again.

I'd be curious to hear from the others that bought this bird -- mine arrived without the pin in the nose of the fuselage to attach the spinner to. In these shots I'm actually using the "flightstick" Marushin supplies to at least get the spinner on for the pics. Did this pin come as a part you need to install with yours? I had thought the pin should have been preinstalled and thus, this is a factory error. I'm working with the seller on a resolution.

Meanwhile, enjoy a few pics -- review with more to come once I get the prop issue resolved.

Ooops -- no pin for the spinner!

Here it is with the rest of my Marushins on the shelf in the curio -- I have a Val, too, but no roomo for that and I like the Kate more. That Buff at least fits thematically -- but I will likely move it to fit in with my Corsairs later.

Looks great Pappy!! I got the Tony from Hobbylink and it cost me $89 shipped. I haven't put mine together yet to see if it has the pin, but Starman assembled his with no problems.

Looks like you need a few Hellcats for them to tangle with as that Buff ain't gonna last long.

Me and my impulse buys... ah well, I can live with that!

Agreed on the Hellcats observation, though with that supposed 19-1 kill ratio I think I only need one!

Re: Pics: Marushin Silver Tony #33

As you may know, I recently did a partial repaint of this model----adding green blotches/squiggles/drippings to the upper surfaces----which I described on another thread. I'm very happy with the outcome and the model, in general. As for the missing rod for mounting the spinner, I carved one out of wood that fits quite snuggly. Now I'm eying Marushin's Vals, Franks and Jacks.

I love my Tony....I had the prop pin with my kit...or maybe it was two flight sticks as you called..
This one is my favorite Japanese fighter by far....I have a Zero... the one you sold me last year
and that is all the Japanese planes i have in 1:48...I have more in the 1:72nd range.
Where did you get that pilot .. is that from Marushin too?
Great pictures.

Yes, that is one of Marushin's pilot figs -- got it from Aikens.

Did the pin come pre-installed or did you have to insert it? I think it's supposed to come pre-installed, no?

(thanks)

Nice collection of Japanese birds, there Pappy!! The only Marushin I own is the 'Jack' that you have on the far left of that shelf!! I, like you, am a huge fan of the larger scale aircraft (1/32nd and 1/48th) and I have 20 FM's, 5 C1's, etc for a total of 33 in this scale. I can usually swing 1 Marushin per year so I think I am going to pick up a D3A1 'Val' or a 'Frank'!!

Looking forward to annoying the 'former' Florida Diecast Forum members!!

Ah, cool, thanks -- then they should be able to send me one. The flightstick definitely is not a long term solution!
