Cool!...but this thread is cool too - no matter what happens - keep the thread. Are you hand brushing the model with your own custom mix? You said you don't plan on using an airbrush. Floquil's "Old Concrete"?

Spray paint, but used as the artist I am!!!

Re: A6M2 Model 21 Zero repaint project

Not sure if this would be an easy conversion, but if I remember right, True Details USA puts out some resin tires for the A6M in 1/48th scale. These resin tires are pretty neat in that they look like they are supporting some weight as apposed to the stardard round model tires. These are a few I have for some future projects.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Oh, man, I run far and fast from flattend tires... just a pet peeve from a guy who modeled his planes in flying configuration and liked his wheels as was.

I will check my Hasegawa kit parts and see if they are better than the stock Marushin parts. Do you have a source for that Eduard PE?

I usually go through Squadron for Eduard photo etch sets.

Re: A6M2 Model 21 Zero repaint project

Here's a test shot of the color I plan on using. Tell me what you think.

The proposed color, depicted in the lower part of the photo, was sprayed on a scrap model wing with a quick decal for color profiling. I am working on the theory of 10% scale lightening effect for paint value (not hue) on 1/48 scale.

Keep in mind the background board is pure white; accordingly, the sample Zero color is a bit lighter than shown. I didn't want to make many digital adjustments to the photo. Lanslide, how does the color look?

Ara - it's hard to know exactly what color you have painted your test shot with because every monitor is calibrated differently but it looks pretty good especially if you model a Nakajima version rather than a Mitsubishi. Very nice!

Re: A6M2 Model 21 Zero repaint project

Hey Chris,

Thanks for asking. The Zero's in a holding pattern as I crank out a flurry (that would be ten) new art pieces. Also completely redesigning/relaunching arahagopian.com. (insert horn-tooting soundbite here). So the Zero awaits after that. The good news is I have all the paints, decals, aftermarket parts and references to build her.

Plus, and this is a BIG plus... next week I am picking up my Wings and Wheels C1 P-40, Pearl Harbor... how cool is that. WWII models, what a celebration of youth...

Re: A6M2 Model 21 Zero repaint project

"Celebration of Youth"......... Wish I had thought of that last night.......UPS brought me two C1s last eve. Dora 13 and the Pearl Harbor P40 My dearest companion of 41 yrs and wife wanted to know how many meals out did that purchase come to? UPS usually comes in the afternoon when she is at work and I can "blend in" the new planes and dispose of the packing before she gets home.. Got caught big time without a good reply!!!!!!
