Re: No Tojo? Doh!

Thanks for taking the time to share those stories, CC. I have a 1969 hardcover book called "Pacific Island Battlefields" and I'll have to check if your atoll is covered. The photos are excellent and comprehensive. "After the Battle" mags (and books) also do great coverage.

We are about the same age. In 74 and 75 I was putting together my first Snap Tite Tiger and Patton tanks with a buddy, getting into armor in the backyard battlefields that rank with my fondest memories. Ah, the old days...

Back to the Ki-44 and lamenting it's delay...

I remember those kits, at that time I was also into carving them out of wood. Shot of my work bench at Kwaj with a FJ-2 Fury in hand and a completed wood 1/72nd scale (Or close to) F4U Corsair on the bench.

Re: No Tojo? Doh!

Very nice photo. It captures the moment very well, many of your fellow collectors have been in that seat, working on a plane or a tank, and you have the photo documenting your time. Very, very cool.

I often think of my mid-70's workbench in my corner of the basement, when I learned how to construct an operating M3 Grant 75 mm sponson, and a Dauntless working dive brake, Avenger wing fold and Corsair landing gear. Didn't look a whole lot different than the setup you had CC.

And now we collect diecasts... for me, diecasting keeps the "fun" part of the kid alive, amid modern-day pressures.

Cool stuff.

Re: No Tojo? Doh!

Marushin models seem to sell well enough, I just wonder why they do not expand their line. I would really like to add the Ki 44 Tojo to my collection.
