| Marushin Is Solid As A Rock! Has it ever been discussed here that Marushin castings are solid metal? There is nothing hollow about them like all the other companies do to save metal and weight. I think they are the finest diecast models available bar none (with the exception of the cockpit detailing). The panel lines are VERY fine and there is VERY little plastic used. I have one of every issue they have ever offered and I don't think there is a better diecast model available when you consider all the factors. Their only problem is their limited subjects. There is no better 1/48 scale P-51D either. | |||||||||||||

Yes, we've discussed the heft factor of the Marushins -- which is very impressive (I too would love to see one of the Bettys in person--wish I had purchased one when I had the chance!). I know I've said many times that if metal content drives your model selection than you owe to yourself to own at least one Marushin (And I'd like a few more, too....)I also really like the fine panel lines and I think the paint jobs are exceptional, too--and that Marushin really nails the profiles more so than anyone else (not than many others make the same planes...). The P-51D, however, has not looked good at all to me in the pictures I've seen (not the best photos admittedly), what about it makes it the best P-51? To me, it looks like Franklin Mint's profile is better on this bird--and it looks to share the same "floodpants" effect on the gear doors as FM, too --- if you could post some good pics of the 'stang I'd be really interested to see them and hear your specific thoughts on the model.

| Re: Marushin Is Solid As A Rock! Okay Pappy...you gotta give me a little time to dig it out of storage to photograph though. I have the "Ridge Runner" with flood pants. Other than the knickers and lack of cockpit detail, it is a great model with fine recessed panel lines that are much more accurate than FM's feeble attempt. | |||||||||||||

Cruver, I never took mine out of the box. Otherwise I would photograph it. I am waiting to display it when we move into a bigger house. Would you want me to dig it out and photograph it in the box?

Keep it nice and safe until you can display it properly in your new home. Would hate to think of one of those gems getting damaged in transit (They never seem to go back into box as first packed) You are so lucky!

Am I lucky? My father and I started collecting Marushins when they first came out (12 years ago or so?). He has always researched Japanese naval aviation for some reason and I love aircraft models. We got all of them from Hobbylink Japan. We would order them as soon as they came out with any new version and they would take a month to get to us here in Florida. The anticipation of getting those planes drove us crazy! I would be willing to photograph the Betty in its packaging for you guys. I seem to remember the Betty costing about $300.00 back then. Is it worth much more now?

You are a great addition to this forum. Your Betty may be worth that; I'm wondering what paint job she's wearing. I suspect there have been more than one version and you have the more valuable one.

I only have seen pictures off of Aikens site, and when they did have them there were two variants. Planes must be real popular with their owners, because I have yet to see one pop up on eBay.
