Marushin Custom A6M2 Zero Photos

This Marushin A6M2 Zero was re-painted and detailed by Greg Springer (a professional model builder and member of j-aircraft.com). My father commissioned it as a Christmas gift for me a few years ago. It represents the correct "semi-gloss pale olive" camouflage color that my father (Jim Lansdale) researched for this aircraft. It is modeled after a Zero that took part in the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was flown by Lt. Suwata Iida from the aircraft carrier Soryu 3rd squadron 1st section No. 1 AC.

That is the same color as the one restored in the NMUSAF.

Re: Marushin Custom A6M2 Zero Photos

Many modelers and some historians still have not accepted this color scheme as accurate but most have. I am very proud of my father for bringing this accurate color to light. You may need to see the actual pieces of the aircraft as I have before you become a believer. There have been many years of misconception regarding this color scheme. Slowly but surely museums and restorers are correcting these errors like the NMUSAF. This color scheme looks pretty sharp too!

I love the pictures lanslide. I believe you and your dad as far as the color. In fact, I think it's a better looking color than that "accepted" light grey. Might try this on my FOV Zero.

The actual paint formulas that come closest to the color are available on j-aircraft.com. One VERY close commercially available paint is FS 34201 "Model Master SAC Bomber Tan" available in 1/2 OZ. jars and 3 OZ. spray cans. But you need to apply a semi-gloss clear coat.

I have taken photos of this color chip with black and white film and it looks light gray just like the WWII photos!

Sounds like a fun project for a cold, rainy day. Something to look forward to.

Nice, it's great to see care and effort into non-mainstream subject matter. Whan a manufacturer demonstrates they care via finishes like this Zero, I will buy. Mr. Springer did a great job.
