Is Marushin A.W.O.L. or K.I.A.?

Is this company out of the diecast model business? We still need them to produce a Tojo to complete the single engine Japanese WWII fighters collection.

Marushin is a funny bunch....
They still produce the early issues and for a limited time a few years ago, offered their kits as "pre-assembled", but that didn't last long... I still say that this is more like the owners pet project rather than a serious money maker like their replica/airsoft guns are..
Now, in saying that, they did produce an all new variant of the Oscar for that "Chiran" movie not long ago, so there is still hope we might see something new down the road..

Marushin folks are definitely an odd bunch. I have a couple of there models and really quite pleased with the quality, Not sure why they have not added to their line of aircraft or put out a second run of their Bettys. I guess it may be a matter of just being happy with what models you can get from them, but not holding your breath on them putting out something new anytime soon.

The Ki-44 Shoki or "Tojo" is one that I would get in a heart-beat if made. I really think it's one of the best looking Japanese fighter next to the Zero, imho.

Don't forget the Ki-100 : no collection of "modern"Japanese single seat fighters of WWII would be complete without it either...

True - but that is really just another version of the Ki-61 Tony (although arguably the best Japanese army fighter of the war next to the Frank). I would love to have a model of any WWII Japanese aircraft but first I would like each major type represented and then the different versions (same thing goes for my entire collection).

They probably are out of business because after many complaints of no instrument panel details they decided it was too expensive to produce a decal.

Still, the Ki-100, a radial-engined Ki-61II, is indeed very different from the Ki-61I, almost as different as the Ki-44 can be from the Ki-43.

Isn't after all the Shoki basically little more than a more powerful and wing loaded edition of the Hayabusa ?...

I guess so but...the Nakajima Ki43 Hayabusa (Oscar) and Nakajima Ki-44 Shoki (Tojo) are completely different airframes (like the Grumman F4F Wildcat is different than the Grumman F6F Hellcat). All they did with the Ki-100 was modify the existing in-line engine airframes to be equipped with radial engines. Otherwise they're the same plane. But I want a Ki-100 too!

Ki-43 and Ki-44 were not just different in airframe designs, but also in performance concept. Ki-43 was pretty much old JAAF focus on manouevrablity whereas the Ki-44 design stressed speed and climb rate.
