I am not sure JP, I looked pretty close and if they are decals, they are done well..

Re: A6M5 "Special" paint scheme..

To me, Marushins Zeros are superior to FMs, with the only real drawback being you have to assemble the Marushin planes, and the FM you don't.. I also think the overall look of Marushins Zero is more correct and more appealing even without the cockpit detail which Marushin is missing..
I would think marushin put more into their molds (accuracy wise) because they are a Japanese company and they specialize in Japanese A/C..

Harry, is there enough room within the cockpit area to insert a resin cockpit detailing kit for the Zero? Thanks.

Unfortunately, No.. The fuselage is solid Zinc and the inside of the cockpit is just big enought to fit the pilots seat and a pilot..

Based upon seeing the pic of the real thing (post #7), it appears the rising sun insignia on the fusulage is a bit too far back!

Might just be the angle of the photo, they both look like they start at that seam in the fuselage.

You might be correct, but in the pic of the real aircraft, it is definitely UNDER the rear part of the glass, whereas in the model it appears to be, at most, BARELY under the glass, perhaps starting right at the end of the glass.

To me the Marushins are much superior -- after getting my Marushin Zeke my FM quickly became expendable... just looked crude in comparison, and a bit chunky. The Marushin seemed to get the profile more correct, based on seeing the real deal at Chino, anyways. The Marushin also looks more accurate to me for color reproduction, FM's green looks too bright, as does the red for its "meatballs". Both stink when it comes to cockpit detail, but I suppose FM gets the edge there.

(And I believe the graphics are all pad-printed JP. If not, they are the best water-slides you are likely to see.)

I agree. I have both and the Marushin blows the FM out of the sky! Marushin does not use any decals whatsoever on any of their models (what you see in the brochure photo on this thread is a pre-production that may have them though). Also, I had one of my A6M2 Zeros customized by Greg Springer (a professional model builder) and he not only re-painted it with different Pearl Harbor markings and the "correct pale olive" airframe color, but he provided a resin instrument panel for the cockpit (not an entire cockpit insert). This plane is THE showpiece of my entire collection. I would sell all 300 + models before I would sell this one if I had to!
