Re: My first Marushin..

Yeah, the stands are pricey.. but so are the planes... I got my stands from the same ebay seller for $23/each..

Hm, I was tempted to buy the stands, too. But the high shipping rate put me off.

Are the stands worth the money?

How much weight can they support? (I am asking because I am still looking for stands that can support the FM/A F-4 and F-15)

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't use them for 1:48 modern stuff -- don't think the base is big enough to give those models a stable platform, I would think it woudl tip easily and I ain't gonna test that for ya It is possible they might work, but....

However, they could pretty much safely be used for just about any 1:48 WWII bird I would think (single-engine, anything else would be an experiment... possibly FM's 1:48 twin engine models...and the p-38). They are sturdy!

The stands are nice -- wood base, metal arm with a rotating head. Rubber bits are included that have an adhesive side -- you can put these on the top of the head to prevent models from slipping (and getting scratched by the metal head). Some birds will fit in this piece by sliding into the notch (small part protrudes at the back of the head on each side to hold models in place, and gives them a slight climb angle that I like -- and room for a centerline fuel tank/bomb to be affixed.). If a model's wing dimensions prevent it from fitting like this you can rest it on the top of the head, providing you use the rubber pieces to keep it from slipping. It can be easy to knock the model off the stand if you use it like this, but it should be safe if you put your model in a cabinet with class doors -- once it's on there it ain't going anywhere unless someone gives it a shove (or an earthquake I suppose )

I got mine with a model from HJ so the shipping wasn't as bad -- discounted for combined shipping even though they arrived in a separate package! (and actually the shipping rates are quite reasonable I think considering how far they travel, and how fast!).

I'll try to get some pics of the stand/models up later this week or early next.

(mods, sorry if we're hijacking here, feel free to move to a new thread if you think necessary)

Re: My first Marushin..

I received my Val today and it is another superb piece from Marushin.. I had a little problem assembling the nose sections with the O-rings, but once I wet the O-rings a little, it went together much more smoothly.. I also noticed a paint chip on the rear fuselage that was present when they painted the tail stripes as the paint is missing under a portion of the stripe but the stripe is complete.. I don't necessarily think this is a problem as I probably have touch up paint to fix the spot.. The rest of the finish is excellent, and I really like how smoothly the rest of the plane went together.. This is my 3rd Marushin and definitely won't be my last..

And Pappy, The bomb was a little tough to get on, but I finally got it!!!! I used a little elmers on the main shaft and had to align the plastic tabs with a screwdriver while pushing in and it snapped inplace..
Hope this helps..

Thanks Harry!

When you say plastic tabs to you mean the two plastic supports that the bomb hangs off of from the belly? Or do you apply pressure to the bomb and the metal shaft snaps in, or a combination of the two? It's been a long time since I messed with that (hope I can still find the parts!... I got a little frustrated.. ) If I do recall, at the time, I had a NO GLUE EVER policy that has since relaxed (courtesy of a couple dozen Dragon models)...

Glad you like it!

I am not sure, but I did push it in until the plastic tabs seemed to pop into place, but I had to be careful and align the plastic tabs into the holes with the screwdriver while I pressed and it just went..
Hope this helps..

Re: My first Marushin..

It would mean going off scale but the A6M5 Model 52 (#5) has caught my eye...
The assembly is do-able I gather from earliers posts?

I'd say assembly is very similar to putting a dragon together... it's all machined very nicely so everythign pretty much fit for me without filling/sanding etc., and only a few pieces have required glue (mainly cannon barrels and antenna masts). I like building these, the larger scale is much more fun in this regard... I just bought a few more, in fact. Harry's been a bad influence!

Re: My first Marushin..

I ordered one of the type 52 zero's and am looking forward to checking it, and the new brand, and a new scale, out.

The Zero is one of the types I collect but I got all the Corgi ones already, so switching brand is good for the Zero corner of my collection. There, I convinced myself (being aware this forum is risky)...

Congrats Kubikali!!
Assembly isn't too bad, but some parts may need a dab of Superglue (CA glue) to keep them in place.. You will need a small head philips screwdriver to assemble the wings to the fuselage and that is about it, the rest of the parts just slide/snap into place..
I do think you will be happy with your purchase though and it may even get you to buy more!!! Let us know what you think about your plane when you get it..

And Pappy.... Did you pick up the Jack Raiden and Silver Frank today?? I am STILL hoping for a George..

Re: My first Marushin..

Thanks to your evil influence, Harry, I got the George and Tony today. Can't find much info on the Frank, was it successful in combat?
