Re: My first Marushin..

Well, I couldn't wait.. Had to pick up the Kamikaze Zero and Green Val divebomber.. I guess I'll get to help Pappy figure out how to mount that bomb..

Cool Harry -- looking forward to the assistance, though I'm sure I'll pull a Homer and go "D'oh!" when you show me the light (I think it's an issue of simply applying a bit more force).

That kamikaze Zeke looks pretty nice, wonder why the prices are so all over the place? -- Raidens and Tonys go for around 100... Zekes and Georges 60 or less.. strange.

BTW -- I ordered that Kate (and a couple stands from the same fella -- figure better get these while you can... and then a Tony from AA.. and some pilots... I'm gonna get in trouble I think Good thing I've been selling off some stuff!)

Got my George the other day from Japan -- incredibly neat shipping/packing... I'm surprised at the amount of assembly required ... even have to put the cockpit in, it seems. Didn't have to do that with the Val... Hopefully I'll be able to figure it out

I noticed yesterday he had a Raiden on there "cheap" but it went quick.. I hadn't seen one of those before, and I think you are correct, because when I checked the Hobby Link Japan website, many of the planes the Ebay seller has are discontinued and won't be reissued anytime soon.. This is one reason, like you, I have jumped on the bandwagon to get the ones I want before they are gone.. My only regret is NOT getting that George when I could, but hopefully, he'll get some more in..

Yeah, that's why I ponied up for the Tony from AA -- paid more, but I don't think we'll be seeing these for a while, if ever, once they're gone. Those bettys have been on backorder for years, for instance....

Didn't see the Raiden -- I probably woulda jumped on that too... and really tried the Mrs.'s patience!

Re: My first Marushin..

I think the raiden was $58.00 BIN, but not sure.. I do know it was cheap, and I would've jumped on it, but the Raiden isn't priority on my list.. I have checked out Aikens and I will probably end up buying a couple from them eventually, but I want to exhaust all possibilities before I have to pony out the dough..

Re: My first Marushin..

I got my Kamikaze Zero today and it is really a top-notch piece.. I really like that this Zero has retracting landing gear, and like the Frank, just looks too darned cool.. The paint is really nice and this is a solid, hefty piece of zink..

I should be getting the Val in the mail anytime now and I'll see if I am as pleased with it as I have been with my first 2 purchases.. If I keep this up, my collection may start to swing to the larger 1/48 scale, slowly replacing my 1/72..

Sounds cool harry (pics?)

Did you have to assemble the cockpit? That "flightstick" cracks me up! BTW -- nab a couple pilots off Aikens, they make the models look so much better IMHO, particularly with the canopies open.

Think I'll have to nab a zero myself when HJ opens back up for biz. (still amazed at the quality packing and speed of delivery...)

I chuckle at putting the metal rod in for the "stick" (you would think they could come up with a little more detail in the cockpit), but I guess we get what we get.. Looking at Marushins website, it seems like airplane sales are more of an afterthought rather than a profitable line (probably the owners pet project) and I do wished they could expand the line to include more of the rare Japanese planes, but kinda get the idea that these may not be around much longer, so I am going to get what I can, while I can..
HJ is absolutley fantatsic when it comes to speed in shipping and quality of service (I am happy to pay the shipping if I continue to get planes in 3-4 days) which is much faster than some retailers ship here in the states..

I will try and take some pics later this week when I get some time..

Re: My first Marushin..

Oh, and just FYI, the stands are nice, too -- can be used for C1 and Franklin Mint, and probably anything else 1:48, too...

I have looked at the stands, but i have a hard time forking out $35 for a stand.. The pilots/ground crews are pretty reasonably priced so I may get some of those.. I do wish Marushin would re-issue their "pre-built" releases as those sold out incredibly fast..
