Re: Wanted advice on IXO's

I picked up on ebay the Altaya Bf-110 Desert Version about 6 months ago and really like it. Haven't even seen these for sale. What's the deal on this one?

Altaya released a ten repaint extension, only in France, of their "Avions de combat de la 2ème Guerre mondiale". Your Bf-110 is #52. These came as the regular magazine issue. I have seen some of these pop up in Spain but were not distributed there by Altaya with the magazine. They have not been released under the IXO name.

Fascicule 51
- Curtiss P-40N Kittyhawk Mk IV (British desert camo, Fl. Lt. Edward Ross)
Fascicule 52
- Messerschmitt Bf 110D-3 (25./ZG III, 6 Staffel, in North Africa, desert camo)
Fascicule 53
- Grumman F4F Wildcat (USS Ranger CV-4, pre-war colors)
Fascicule 54
- DeHavilland Mosquito FB Mk.VI (RAF Coastal Command)
Fascicule 55
- Focke Wulf Fw 190D-9 (Papegai Staffel)
Fascicule 56
- North American P-51D Mustang (Miss Marilyn II)
Fascicule 57
- Dewoitine D.520 (Aéronautique Naval, yellow tail)
Fascicule 58
- Republic P-47D-22 Thunderbolt (Zombie, silver)
Fascicule 59
- Mikoyan Gurevitch MiG-3 (Romania)
Fascicule 60
- Hawker Typhoon Mk.Ib (desert colors)

Avions de combat de la 2ème Guerre mondiale
Avions de combat de la 2ème Guerre mondiale

Altaya's French website shows most of these but there is no picture of the Typhoon #60, and the Romanian MiG-3 (two green camo) #59 is shown as a Hurricane!

Thumbs up Re: Wanted advice on IXO's

I must confess to having a soft spot for IXO. They produce models no-one else will and their service is outstanding. They sent me a Raiden for free when I asked where I could get one!

I have 16 IXO 1/72s, 4 Japanese, 2 Italian, 2 French, 1 Russian, 1 Finnish, 1 British & 5 German including a He219 spare that I'd be happy to swap for a Hs129.

Yes, they are gap fillers and l have only bought locally. I too would swap them out should a better model come along but until then they're most welcome in my collection.

ZS-VAN, IXO's Hs129 is an absolute gem - perhaps not perfect but an excellent piece of diecast that looks great and is essential for any Eastern Front display ... (my Dragon T34s and SU85/100s run for cover whenever they see it ).

Unhappilly I was silly enough to pass this one up when l had the opportunity. I figured it was under-powered and vulnerable, hence not a good combat aircraft. As you say, it does have your T34s and SUs running for cover. You live and learn.

Most online vendors---The Flying Mule, On Mark, Aikens, Motor Pool, etc. ----carry the ones you are looking for. I just happened to be on the Pete's Collectibles website and noticed the MS-406, Yaks, etc. going for only $15 in some cases.

Thanks Epapazain. Part of why l was getting these locally was value for money. It was virtually the only diecast l could get cheaper than from overseas. If l'm going to buy in the US/UK I'm only getting the good stuff.
