Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

I agree-they look fairly nice, but the price just seems too high to me....that, and I prefer 1:72.

Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

While I like these models for the rarer types offered, I'm holding off because the price point of $30-$35 is just too high for something so small that's half (or more) plastic. Considering a Corgi Legend or Warbird model is typically $15-$20, and has far higher metal content, IXO needs to get real on the pricing.

Excellent point there, no4mkit! I just don't see any "bang for your buck" with that kind of pricepoint (not enough to tempt me anyway) even if those birds will never be made by other diecast manufacturers.

The Mule is listing 12 of these now but not the Stirling. Anyone know why not?

These models seem to be even pulling down higher prices on eBay.

Brewster Buffalo, Hawk 75A, Fokker D.XXI, Polikarpov I-16, Fiat G.50, Macchi C. 200, PZL P.11c, Fieseler Fi 156 Storch ,,,, now those are real planes.

Perhaps some think they're getting mostly metal?

Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

I suspect that those prices on eBay reflect the novelty appeal of these models---especially, the unusual ones. I must admit that I have paid more than they probably are worth to get my hands on the likes of Altaya's Cant Z 1007, JU-290 and HE-177. It's likely that a big dump of unsold inventory will eventually take place at much reduced prices---if one is willing to wait and chance missing out on a particular plane, this should be a good deal.

Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

These planes are interesting representations of some rare, lesser known planes. For collectors who are driven to get these types of aircraft, I can see why there is such a buzz about them. They aren't all that bad quality wise and talented collectors like Epapazian can (and do) work some incredible magic with them. But I'm more of a "mainstream" collector. I like P-40s, Corsairs, and the more common bombers. These new IXOs don't strike me as something I really am dying for. The price point (for mostly plastic) and 1:144 scale also work against them. I think Epapazian is correct. There may be a sell-off in the far future. IXO's 1:72 scale planes seem to be maintaining their price value even though most serious diecast collectors have pretty much forsaken the brand. For me, I'll enjoy looking at the pictures - I can admire the planes and it doesn't cost me any money.

Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

im looking forward to the Stirling. I think it would be nice to have a Manchester in this scale too.

Probably the only way we would ever see a Manchester.

Thumbs down Re: New IXO 1:144 Scale Bomber Images

Ok, here are my own pro's and con's on the new releases coming out. I love the subject matter! I hate the scale! For myself, I decided early that I was going to stick to 1/72 scale. And I have almost every 1/72 Corgi and all the 1/72 IXO bombers now. I'm not going to change scale in mid-run. I want the viewer of my displays to have a uniform representation of the relative size of the aircraft for comparsion. I'm not going to give in and start mixing scale now. I've even started to resort to buying 1/72 scale built plastic aircraft on eBay of types I don't have and are unlikely to see in diecast. I'm not referring to Easy Model. So, I will not be picking up on this new series.
