That tall IXO Polikarpov I-16 windscreen

I have to admit that I like the IXO Polikarpov I-16, but the windscreen just does not help at all. I popped the windscreen off today to see if a bit of sanding might help bring it just a bit closer to scale. Fortunately the canopy came off with some gentle tugging and I do mean gentle. I cut the two small retaining posts off with an X-Acto blade and proceeded to sand (Again gently). It only took about 5 minutes of sanding to get it close to the height I was looking for, I reattached it with white glue (Still might sand it down a little more). It is still a little to high, but looks a bit better.

Nice job, Cruv. What exactly did you use to sand it with?

Cut out a small 4"x 4" section of 150 grit sandpaper. I worked it on a flat surface using gentle side to side motion and rotating to keep it an even sand. I would have gone with finer grit wet sandpaper, but figured it would take a bit longer. I would not do it with anything greater than 150 grit sandpape though.

I did the same thing and added a pilot plus some other refinements. It looks a lot better now.

Thanks, just took a little bit of sanding to make canopy look more to scale.

Great job on the I-16! I bought this one 2 years ago and love it but I haven't done anything with it yet as it is still hanging form the ceiling after it arrived.

The IXO I-16 isn't too bad, and I picked up a second with thought of doing a repaint for a Spanish Civil War version.

That is a great thought! I would love that version also. Can you post some pics please when finished with it?
