The more and more you guys talk about these 1:144 scale models, the more I want them! I hope from now on favorable talk regarding this scale will be discussed in PMs only Please be considerate of collectors that only have space and budgets for one scale

Hi, I realise most of these postings are several months old but I was amazed at the prices quoted for the Emily, I have had one for sale since it was first issued for 20 Euros about 30 dollars; Kawanishi H8K2 "Emily", 1/144th scale by Altaya - SpecialistAuctions.com - moderated specialist & collectors online auctions, I sell all of the models as they are issued at what I consider fair prices unlike another seller based in France, Bon Courage Brian

Re: New Pictures of Six Altaya 1:144th Scale Aircraft Models

I need an opinion on these models. A seller on E-bay that I have dealt with on numerous occasions has several of the 1/144 on sale now. But on several of the descriptions he warns of "high plastic contents" with only the upper fuselage being metal. The Italian bombers are particularily intriguing to me. Sooooo...does the plastic detract from the model?

Who knows on these babies, I just looked em up on Ebay and here is a desription one guy gives on almost everyone he has listed

Note the High Metal Content ????

The model is provided with fixed landing gear in the extended position that cannot be retracted. The handsome plastic display stand is included. The propellers turn freely on their metal shafts and the wheels on each die-cast aircraft do not turn. The gun turrets do not turn and the machineguns do not move up and down. The model has a high metal content, only the tailplanes and small components are made of plastic

This description applies to the small models only (Ju-88, B-26 Marauder and LeO-451up to now), all the others are of the "high plastic content" type. To me all look pretty good, even if some have some errors. Just imagine how much one has to pay for a Nimrod from the pooch!

Re: New Pictures of Six Altaya 1:144th Scale Aircraft Models

Normally I would not pickup any of the 1/144th scale, but the Junkers Ju 290 looks mighty tempting. I have set of decals that will fix the rudders up with proper markings.

Picked up the Ju-290 the other day on ebay. Wow! What a great looking plane and she's a big one too! A real beaut!

I have the B-17, Halifax, Cant Z 1007, JU-290, Emily, LeO 451, HE-177 and FW-200. On most of the models the wings as well as the tailplanes are plastic, but that doesn't detract from their quality---except they are somewhat lighter than all-metal products. The detail built into the mold design is surprisingly good, however, like most mass produced products, problems arise in the assembly and detailing. The insignias, letters, etc. are pad printed and, as a rule are of the proper color and size---unlike past IXO and Atlas models. Still, they manage to print some of the letters, lines, etc. out of proper alignment. Also, their color schemes, while decently applied, can be rather odd---the three- color scheme on the HE-111, is a case in point. Another example is the Cant Z 1007. The pattern, while interesting, just isn't right---although I had little trouble correcting it. Getting a realistic looking HE-177 also required a repaint. Finally, these models often display fit problems---especially where the wings and tailplanes join the fuselage and gaps, as one can see along the bottom of the Betty's fuselage.

Despite their shortcomings, I will buy many of the other models in this series and make sufficient corrections or redos, to make them presentable. If you are not into this, they may still be worthwhile gap fillers so long as you view them from a distance.
