Re: Henschel Hs.129

There are at the moment about 15 models on my must have list but only 1/2 a models worth of money in my wallet.

I may have to sell the family treasures, hmm lets see now,
one old ashtray,
one bucket without a handle,
one cracked vase,
two flea ridden cats,
one kettle with a hole in it,

Hmm I am struggling here,
To use the name of one of my favorite actors, its Slim Pickens!

Theres the table and four chairs,,,,,, nope I burnt them last week to keep warm!
Erm,,,,, Idea, I wonder what Lorraine has hidden away, nope way to dangerous.
hmm whats in my desk,
one bottle of correction fluid, one bottle of white glue , three pens ,one pencil a screwdriver , broken Corgi stand, Arrgh another bill, tisk I thought I had paid that!
One old calculator one old .......mutter mutter, grumble grumble, an old stamp, mutter mutter, why is there a three amp fuse in here?
The search continues.

I can identify with ya, Jim!

Re: Henschel Hs.129

I have this one too. It's a cool looking plane and sounds like a forerunner to the A-10 design, "The Hs 129 was designed around a single large "bathtub" of steel sheeting that made up the entire nose area of the plane, completely enclosing the pilot up to head level. Even the canopy was steel, with only tiny windows on the side to see out of and two angled blocks of glass for the windscreen.".

The Germans had a great idea but were poor in execution, arming it with a 37mm canon then the 75mm Panzer Tank gun but not addressing the performance of the underpowered engines.

what, never sell my p40s no way.

Hornchurch, just so you dont think I am a complete Noddy,

Hold on let me finish, some time ago I had a Ford Probe, (do I hear a few sniggers at that) and I had a lot work done on that baby,
(that Mazda engine was a real cracker, you just couldn't break it).

Lots of tweaks and twiddling with the go faster bits resulted in..............

Nought to sixty in under 6 seconds and it would do 158 mph , I never found out just how fast it would go because I chickened out at 158mph. No I will not tell you where I tested it, walls have ears! But it was at 1am on a Sunday morning.

It cornered like an like an amazing cornering thing and sounded just so sweet.

The down side was that it only did 18mpg even on a run ,nearer 12 around town.
I had to train the guy that bought it so he would not kill himself first time out.
It could be a bit evil if you didnt watch the revs.It scared him so much that he sold it after only a couple of months.

I must give most of the credit to a friend of mine who works for Ferrari in the engine shop and is an absolute wizz with engines.
I spent way too much money on that car but it was worth every penny.

One year at Duxford Legends carpark !!!!!!!!!!!

The big field across the road to be more exact.

I was having fun with a few of the guys and showing them how to do handbrake turns and sideways parking and high speed 360s while aiming for the exit between 2 iron posts , when a stern looking army chap walked over and gave me the hard word.
I should add the the field had emptied of vehicles.

He had the uniform on and the peak over his eyes, I think he was an RSM so best not to argue with those guys.
I offered him a ride but he declined and asked me to desist or he would have me banned for life from Duxford for spoiling his grass!!!!
It didnt help when I said I didnt know the army smoked that stuff.
Very funny sir I suggest you leave NOW!

(this story gets better with each telling).

I never used first gear because it would just leap forward and stall but it pulled away nicely in second then a quick shift into third and away I went.

It was the best car I ever had and I have had some good ones. I once had a Ford Zodiac way back in the late sixties.(remember Z cars)?

I have a hairdressers car at the moment, a Toyota roadster MR 2.
Lots of fun and sticks to the road like glue, a poor mans Porsche I call it.

God Bless America.

Re: Henschel Hs.129

Well I listened to the comments and then tracked one down for around $20.
It should arrive in the next few days so I will let you know what I think when I get my hands on it.
The oil will be a bonus in these times of high fuel charges.

At the moment I am trying to figure a way of getting Lorraine to agree to my buying a new cabinet.

The signs are not good.

Jim, I'm a little surprised by that. The furniture aspect is the only thing about diecast collecting that my wife shows any interest in. As a matter of fact, for Valentines day she gave me some seed money for a new curio. Of course, she is expecting to see something more than an Ikea Detolf. My challenge will makings sure what's inside is worth more than the outside.

Problem is , she claims that I am taking over the house with all my planes. Now I dont see a problem there but unfortunately she does.
However I shall work on this and when I am in her good books as they say over here I shall try again and again and again.

VICTORY SHALL BE MINE.
