Re: Where would the hobby be without IXO??

I agree with you guys! IXO has to be applauded for taking chances on aircraft that others hadn't at the time (Me-110, P-39) or haven't yet been produced.

As a side note, I've seen the HM Me-110 and IMHO IXO's offering is nicer. A big thing that I noticed was that IXO's 110 canopy framing is thinner and looks better than HM's (which looks too thick). I also like the paint better and while the IXO 110 is not as crisp in some areas (panel lines, etc.) I'd rather have it over the HM.

I agree that IXO's BF-110 is one of its better offerings. However, that camouflage scheme is probably wrong, the wing crosses are too large and they didn't bother to provide any nose guns. On the other hand, you are right on about the canopy. From a distance, IXO's looks a lot more realistic. Still, HM did include swastikas which is a plus. Let's hope that the impending Corgi version puts both IXO and HM to shame.

The IXO 110, from the photo, doesn't look like it has nose guns but the actual model does have the grooves in the nose to represent where the guns are. I was too bothered that there weren't any swazis and the camo was a bit bright but comparing both together, I'd still pick the IXO.

Here's my latest redo of IXO's BF-110. I'm 90% finished.

Ep.
Looks really nice! Did you apply a wash because the colors don't look as bright as mine. The guns are also a nice touch!

The IXO ME110 livery blows the HM's away. The Wasp ME110 Rocks!!!

BTW: Epapazian, nice gun addition!

Thanks. Yes I applied a thin wash but I see a few places where it puddled and caused small smudges. Also, those small triangles, which indicate what kind of fuel to use when filling the tanks ,are not positioned correctly. I'll have to decide whether my time is better spent continuing to fix this model, or on other projects.

Re: Where would the hobby be without IXO??

I just noticed the photos you all are using to represent the HM Bf 110 do not match the one sitting next to me. So I took some comparison pictures in same lighting to make it easier to get a good look at the two together. With the exception of the Swastikas on the OXI version they both are stock. For some reason the example previously posted on the HM Bf 110 made the camouflage look a bit off. Here you can get a good view of both and in similar lighting. The HM version has much nicer detail in regards to the landing and also like most HM products this model has no standout gaps or seems. HM did a fairly nice job in providing a little cockpit detail too. The IXO Bf 110 also is a nice looking model with good looking canopy framing, but no real cockpit detail. Personally I think both make for a great looking model. Some may debate picking up the HM Bf 110, but I sure like seeing it sit on the shelf next to my IXO Bf 110. I really like the Bf 110 as a day fighter and think it will be great when Corgi puts their version out and I will have three. I also have both the HM Night Fighter 110s on order too. Not sure where those other shots of the HM Bf 110 came from, but I noticed the difference in the spinners right off. Hope these pictures help some folks in deciding if they want to pick up either of these models. I am quite happy with both.

Re: Where would the hobby be without IXO??

If someone says IXOs are great...well maybe they have not bought a clunker yet. Like Easy Models, IXOs range from very good to very poor. I have 9 carefully selected IXOs and am generally pleased, only two now have competitors from Corgi et al, my Bf110 and Typhoon.

As to the question "Where would the hobby be without IXO?", I worry that better examples might not be made by Corgi etc. Hobby Master probably made the Bf110 in spite of the IXO version being out.

Re: Where would the hobby be without IXO??

I'm lucky enough to have several good hobby store nearby where I can see the models out of the box before I purchase. So I can be quite sure of the quality.

Re: Where would the hobby be without IXO??

IXO's Corsair really soured me on their offerings. I mean... how the heck can you forget the oil cooler inlets? They were a fundemental part of the plane. Forgetting the oil cooler inlets is almost like forgetting that the Corsair has inverted gull wings.
