Altaya IXOS Defiant

I'm considering picking up this model.

Anyone already own it? Thoughts? Opinions?

Thanks.

Re: Altaya IXOS Defiant

I have the Altaya version sourced from Europe via Ebay. It is pretty much your standard IXO release. Nothing fantastic but unlikely that anyone else will do it in diecast. I wouldn't put it front and center in my display case but it looks OK in the back row next to the Corgi night colored Spitfire.

Hi Canuck,

I have the Defiant.

This was very nearly a great model from IXO, it is spoilt because all the details are painted on, ie panel lines, none in the casting itself, shame.
My other problem is the over glossy paint.

Thats the down side.

The good points are that overal the model is not a bad representation of this aircraft. It sits well on the stand and looks good (although no pilot figure).
It drips oil just like the real thing (clever added feature of IXOs).

I wont go into the ins and outs of the actual accuracy of the model , its an IXO afterall but I would say go ahead and buy it, I like mine despite all I have said against it.

AND, yes its the only game in town!

God Bless America.

Re: Altaya IXOS Defiant

If the price is right Canuck it is worth picking up. As Jim mentioned it has more oil than Saudi Arabia and will need a good rub down (down Skunky!!). As with most IXOs it looks best as part of a display or diorama without a detailed examination. The gloss paint can be toned down.

I agree that the Defiant isn't half bad for an IXO, although those gray panel lines they painted on would look better if they were thinner. As for the oil, every time I wipe mine off, more of the stuff starts to trickle out. It's almost like they installed a small self-refueling tank of it somewhere in the fuselage.

with the price of oil so high I think at least 30% of the price of an IXO must be the oil content.

Re: Altaya IXOS Defiant

Just as everybody said above, you may buy it : it's among the few good IXOs.

It is easy to improve : All you have to do is finish the painting of the framing of the canopy, paint the wing lights and tip of the propeller's blades, cut the second pitot tube , paint the landing gear, and dull coat the whole thing.

Thumbs up Re: Altaya IXOS Defiant

Let me join the chorus: I agree with the above comments. A little dullcoat does wonders and it sure makes a nice addition to your WW II fighter collection, In IXO speak, probably a 7 out of 10.

Re: Altaya IXOS Defiant

I seem to recall reading somewhere, can't remember where, that the night fighters were supposed to be a little glossy.
I don't think they were supposed to be dripping oil, though.
