In my opinion, they look like toys.
I got rid of them all (except for one), after I did a thorough comparison with Corgi, Witty,FOV & Dragon (Warbirds).
When Gemini Aces line showed up...the IXO's really became toys for my son.
The only one I kept is the Polikarpov I-16 which is at border line, between a toy and collectible.

Re: IXO compared to other manufacturers

That would depend allot on who you asked. The one thing nice about IXO is that they make a nice selection of aircraft that no other company has put out yet. Currently I have their Wildcat, D520, MB 152, MS 406, Blackburn Skua, MC 202, Fiat G 55, Polikarpov I-16 and their ME 110. I have seen quite a variety of opinions with regards to IXOs models. Here is how I rate the ones that I own.

Close to what Corgi and some of the other companies are putting out.
D 520
Blackburn Skua
Mc 202
Me 110
Polikarpov I-16

Not good, but the only game in town.
MB 152
MS 406

If they fell off the shelf, oh well.
Wildcat
Fiat G55

Re: IXO compared to other manufacturers

The best thing about IXO is they make types that other companies might not ever make, like the Russian I-16. Their overall quality of their models isn't very good of course with missing detail, bent cannon barrels, etc. But their Japanese WWII types are probably their best. I like their Oscar, Raiden and Tony.

Mike, that about sums it all up.

Only buy Ixo if there is no other option, or if you are short of oil!

Yes, that is for sure too Jim! The He-219 I bought which is still in the package, looks like a quart of 30W oil came inside the package. What's the deal with that???

On display, I think that both the IXO Hs129 and Do335 look very good and the Me110 isn't bad either .

I have all 3 of them and you are right Cardinal. The HS-129 and Do-335 do look pretty good as well as the Me-110 Wespen. I also like the little He-162 Salamander.

Re: IXO compared to other manufacturers

There are a lot of interesting comments on this subject in the forum department IXO Models Junior, which should give you most of the information requested. The basic point is that IXO designed its planes to fill a publisher's promotional needs, not as a competitive thrust against Corgi, Dragon, etc. To make the economics work, numerous shortcuts were taken--- all intended to turn out each model and assemble it in the most rapid possible manner. As a result, some planes have inaccurate or missing parts, add-on items such as tail wheels, main wheels, antennae, bombs, etc. are crudely cast and often lacking any detail, colors are often wrong as are insignias and other markings, and the planes' panel lines are far too heavily inked.

All of which means that the primary appeal of IXO models is the fact that the publisher who gave the initial order, needed 40-50 planes mass-produced, which in turn led to many "unusual" models--such as the Oscar, Tony, MS 406, Yak-9 and MC-202 being included. While none of these compare well with quality product distributed by Corgi, Dragon, and now, Hobby Master, Gemini Aces, and others, some IXOs are relatively decent models and are worth collecting as a stop gap, pending manufacture of the same planes by other companies. A new magazine promotional series of WW II bombers in 1:144 scale that is coming out now under the Altaya banner looks to be better, qualitatively, and has the same basic selling point---many unusual planes are included---so this, too, bears watching. Despite my comments in this post, I own many IXO and Altaya models and after making necessary corrections or completely repainting some, I have many of them on display.

I wish I had the answer Mike, the 335 is still dripping oil after six months, the Defiant has the same problem.
BTW I bought the HE219 and it has more paint faults than I could go into.
