Oily Ixos

Has anyone had this problem,

Yesterday I took 3 Ixo models out of their boxes in order to display them and found that they were covered in oil!

A small pool of oil was in the bottom of the plastic package. When I tried to clean these planes up oil dripped out of various parts of the plane.
The oil was typical evil smelling engineering oil.

I now have 3 Ixo models all bright and shiny in their coat of oil, Defiant, D0 353, and Skua.

What do you gentlemen make of this?

I am going to attempt to wash one down and see what happens!!!!!!!!!!!

God Bless America.

No wonder a barrel of oil is at a all time high!

Re: Oily Ixos

Every IXO that I have purchased (12) have come out of the box oily, but not
to the extent that they were dripping. A simple wipe with a soft cloth
cured this.

You must have struck it rich there, Jimmy boy....black gold - - Texas Tea!!!

Seriously, I haven't had any 'oily' problems with all the IXOs I have, though I've noticed some oily residues with the plastic blister covers on some of them. It lubricated
my fingers such that when I held my diecasts it almost shot loose into the air! Damn lubricants!

The trouble is that the nice matt camo is now high oily gloss.

Weird thing about this is it must have been put in there after painting , surely they must clean them down with solvent before they paint them?

AHA I think I got it, IXO zinc goes rusty!

Re: Oily Ixos

I must have a more than a dozen or so including the Do 335 and Defiant and I haven't encountered the problem.

That would really be bad if your zinc goes rusty in a few years

Re: Oily Ixos

I have around three IXO's from a fellow MH member (well, actually they are the Altaya's (did I spell that correctly?) They were, if I remember correctly, unopened when I received them, and there was no oil on them.

Re: Oily Ixos

A couple of IXOs I have did have spots with an oil film, but they wiped clean with a soft cloth. I wonder if the models move along some sort of conveyor line where oil can drip on them just prior to packaging?

There were slight spots on the Salamander when it arrived but my HM Mount Olympus F104 was a lot worse.
