Re: Oily Ixos

There were slight spots on the Salamander when it arrived but my HM Mount Olympus F104 was a lot worse.

Now that's a surprise! Could be process/procedural issue when packaging with oil getting onto the completed model.

Re: Oily Ixos

I have had the same problem. Ended up carefully washing n sudsy water both the plane, parts, and even the plastic box the plane came in. Then just let them dry on paper towels.

Glad we could relieve your mind, Jim! (actually, we made it all up so you wouldn't think you're going insane, but mum's the word on that. Lorraine let us know who shaky things are with you right now, so sshhhhhhhh!)

Re: Oily Ixos

I have seen this oil before on many a new model, not just IXO.
I have seen it in Corgi & Witty products too.
Im not exactly sure what the oil is, I can only guess it must be used in the production of the models.
Sometimes it will just dry up after the model is removed for the packing other times a paper towel is needed to clean it off.

Re: Oily Ixos

I believe that the 'oil' may have nothing to do with the actual model but is from the 'vacuforming' process used for the plastic moulded box fitting for the model ... not 100% sure though .

Re: Oily Ixos

Oh - those darn Dorniers are known to be oil leakers! Sounds like you have a very realistic display there.

You've got to be kidding Jim !

Are you sure it's not a scaled down version of the real thing, with a tiny engine in there just waiting to be fired up the moment the Lilliputian pilot arrives .
