Altaya Posts Pics Of Emily, Leo and Wellington

For those who are following the progress of the new Altaya 1:144 Bombers of WWII series, check out their website--Altaya.fr---for pictures of the Emily, Leo 451 and Wellington.Scroll down through the first set of five pictures and then click to the next set as indicated. I have no interest in the Wellington and only a little in the Leo, but the Emily looks tempting.

These look decent in the small photos. Of course the 1/72's looked good in the photos as well!

I'm going to avoid the Ebay rush to buy these and wait to see if they appear as IXO releases here in the US. If they turn out decent and are fairly priced I might decided to add another scale to my collection to cover the larger aircraft.

While I plan to buy a number of these models---mainly those not done by Corgi---it is important to realize what these really are. This has been discussed in some detail in other threads on the Altaya planes which can be found under the category "IXO Models Junior". In one of these I briefly reviewed an "advance" copy of the B-17G, citing good and bad points. Overall, I think that planes like the Emily or FW-200 are worth buying even if one has to make "corrections", do a little touch-up painting, etc. I don't think I can say the same thing about Altaya's Lancaster, B-24, Wellington, HE-111 ,etc., which are available in larger size and better quality from Corgi.

The Atlas version of the FW-200 has been out for three or more years via eBay sellers---though I've not seen one listed recently . I have one of the Atlas FW-200s. It has a very poor fit between the top and bottom in the rear fuselage area, as well as the other problems associated with this cheaply made series. The Altaya Condor looks much better, despite the light feel it is sure to have because of the heavy use of plastic.

I did a brief review of the Altaya B-17 ( Pictures of the Altaya B-17 ) and offered some comments on this line (Some Thoughts on the New Altaya WW II Bomber Line) in two threads in the IXO category which you may find informative on this subject.

That Emily will go well with my Sunderlands. I quite like flying boats.

I will definitely like to have the Emily to be included with the IXO Jr. Japanese planes I already own. Btw, Epapazian..what intel have you on the Arado/V-1 combo release? Thanks.
