What scale is that?

I can take umbrage, I can take the cake, I can take the A-Train, I can take two and call me in the morning, but I cannot take this sitting down. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take five.

Re: Pictures of New Altaya B-17G

Some comments on this bird. As I noted in another thread, it's cast from a totally new mold with lots more detail than the old Atlas models. However, all but the fuselage is plastic, so it is lighter. And there are some errors. For example, the OD anti glare paint on the engine nacelles is missing as is the waist machine gun on the right side. Also, they have misaligned the green stripes on the rear fuselage, used an awful gray paint on the rear gunner's windows and botched the guns in the ball turret. Most of this can be fixed with a bit of drilling to mount a machine gun, some bending and careful painting. So, all in all, I am really looking forward to the far more interesting planes due out shortly from this series---such as the FW-200, JU-290, Short Sterling, HE-177, Emily, etc.

Based upon the tape roll it's on, I'd guess 1:144. Confirmation anyone?

The whole series is in 1:144.

Re: Pictures of New Altaya B-17G

Outside of the more sought after models I can see no reason for another 1:144 model of a B-17 that is not wholly diecast. There are still many Corgis to choose from. Model Power has a mess of them (not quite the same scale) and all are DIECAST METAL. So, a multitude of RAZZIES to Altaya for conjuring up this RASPBERRY.

Fudge....

I thought that this was gonna be a 1/72nd scale series.

That was the original rumor spread by on overly enthusiastic online seller. Alas, a 1:72 scale diecast line for large sized bombers is just too rich for the publishers who give these birds away as perks when selling their magazine subscriptions.

Re: Pictures of New Altaya B-17G

That really doesn't look bad at all (other than the obvious mistakes).. I will consider these when they come out with the rest of the series..

I couldn't agree with you more. The last thing I need is a mass produced metal plus plastic "diecast" B-17 in 1:144 scale, let alone a Lancaster or B-24. But when we are talking about an Emily or a FW-200 or a Piaggio P.108----to name only a few---my attitude changes. Now I am quite willing to buy such rare models and even go to the trouble of fixing correctable mistakes. The reason is obvious. I don't think I'll be around by the time Corgi, Hobby Master or Dragon get around to doing such planes--and I want them in my collection.
