Re: New IXO Planes

well, I'd give them a fair rating, but that P-39 spinner is way oversized. Considering what HM and Gemini give you for your diecast dollar, these IXO are overpriced.

Re: New IXO Planes

Mine sits perfectly on its wheels!

I have had the P-39 since last year. I really like it alot but it does NOT sit on the tricycle landing gear as it will lean backwards. Mine is on the stand with gear down. Still, a very nice model overall and a better IXO.

Re: New IXO Planes

If they made the prop and spinner out of metal it would probably sit right. Still, since no one else is interested in doing the P39and Stormovik I guess I'll
have to get a hold of them. Note to Merritec!

Re: New IXO Planes

Maplefleg,
Hey there.

I seem to recall that Hobby Master has announced a P-39 for sometime in the future. Might not happen till next year (And given inevitable delays, maybe the year after....) but you might have options if you are patient. (Not that I have EVER been patient about anything concerning diecast....)

Stromovich however, is another issue. Who knows when there will ever be a big enough market for Russian birds.....

Anything for a weird life.

Re: New IXO Planes

Wonder if they pay the little 3 grade tykes who are in Art class to get out their black markers and "drawn in the panel lines" for $2.00 a hour.

AH HA, I think you hit the nail on the head there Mike, its the only possible explanation.

The only part of your post I disagree with is the $2.00 per hour, dont you mean 2cents?

Re: New IXO Planes

I have been also, but I'll wait longer...for the Hobby Master! Can anyone say "overdone inked panel lines...!"

I own a number of IXO issues and photographed all of them. I think the photos exaggerate the panel lines on all models, regardless of make: usually, however, the lines don't show up that badly when on display. It seems to me, after reading hundreds of posts, that IXO is the favorite whipping boy of contributors to this site. Sure, some of their issues leave much to be desired, but name one manufacturer of diecast models who doesn't have a dog or two in their line-up.

That's fair, but I still think IXO should get more than their fair share of "Kibbles 'N Bits". From what I have seen, poorly engineered and as badly executed, with a few exceptions that are adequate or better.

Re: New IXO Planes

Stalag8611,
Hey there.

You make some good points about IXO being the whipping boy. I've got a few IXO's and I like them. However, it's always a buyer beware issue with IXO. If you know what level of quality you are going to get, no problem. If you are expecting DETAIL (Which many folks are, no matter the manufacturer.) then you are going to be put off.

The big problem with IXO seems to be that when they get it wrong, BOY do they get it wrong. That and the fact that their cost is equal to Dragon, Corgi, et.al. means that folks hold them to a higher standard.

IXO gets plenty of props for giving us a DO335, Tony, Frank, LA-7 and several other nice models that no one else is making anytime soon. IXO really dissapoints when their Yak is manufacturered so sloppy.

I also think part of the dissapointment with IXO is that is appears that is would be so easy to improve their line in general. A tweek here, a tweek there and the planes would be MUCH nicer. (The really heavy panel lines being a major point.)

Anything for a weird life.

Thats my main gripe about IXO, it would indeed be so easy to raise the standard without it costing anything.

But as some one on the forum said, why should they after all they sell well.

Jim,
Hey there.

Yeah, exactly. I've made a very similiar argument about Corgi. It seems that once a manufacturer makes a descision on the "quality" of details they are offering, they stick to that similiar level for all their moulds. Hobby Master seems to have broken away from that, or maybe they started out with such a high level of quality in the first place? IXO could improve, but since we are a very small minority of their customer base, or wishes go unheeded.
